About Manchester Central Foodbank
Established in Ardwick in 2013 as the country’s first student-led foodbank, we now support communities across Central, North and East Manchester. As part of the Trussell network, we provide emergency food and practical support while working with partners to reduce and ultimately end the need for foodbanks. Our values are Care, Dignity, Quality, Partnership, Anti-Stigma and Rights-Based.
Manchester Central Foodbank currently serves a community of 17,000 people, providing 153,000 meals a year across 3 Foodbanks Openshaw, Harpurhey and Brunswick.
With further cost-of-living rises anticipated, we expect the need for our services to grow. This role will help future-proof MCFB by strengthening foodbank session quality and capacity and delivering projects that prepare us for the challenges ahead.
The Role
· Three session-focused days: Plan, lead and continually improve our three half-day foodbank sessions at Brunswick, Harpurhey and Openshaw, with the remaining time dedicated to preparation, follow-up, volunteer support and improving the quality and consistency of service delivery.
· Work collaboratively with the Operations & Projects Lead, Volunteer Coordinator and Logistics & Warehouse colleagues to ensure every session is appropriately staffed, stocked and prepared, with safeguarding standards consistently maintained.
· Maintain accurate referral, voucher and session records, uphold safeguarding and food-safety standards, and turn client and volunteer feedback into practical improvements.
· Two days: work directly with the CEO on agreed projects, helping turn ideas into practical plans, milestones and measurable results. Projects may include better systems, service development and operational improvements.
About You
· You have experience coordinating frontline services, community activities or another busy people-facing environment, and can confidently lead and support volunteer teams.
· You are organised, approachable and calm under pressure, with strong communication, IT and record-keeping skills.
· You can plan and deliver projects, follow through on commitments and identify ways to improve how services work.
· You are a team player who lives our values, contributes to a positive, supportive team culture and treats people experiencing hardship with dignity and respect. Foodbank experience is welcome, but not essential.
