Contract type: Full time
Connected IT

Connected IT has exclusively partnered with an innovative technology scale-up developing next-generation enterprise Voice AI solutions.

Their platform integrates advanced AI agents and agent-assist technologies directly into enterprise telephony and contact-centre environments, helping businesses transform how they communicate with their customers.

Following significant growth, they are expanding their engineering team in Manchester and are looking to recruit an experienced Senior VOIP / Voice Engineer to play a key role in designing, delivering and supporting complex voice integrations.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced VOIP / Voice Engineer or Telephony Specialist to take their career in a new direction, working at the intersection of enterprise communications and Artificial Intelligence.

You'll bring strong technical expertise across SIP, VoIP, telephony infrastructure and contact-centre technologies, helping enterprise customers integrate modern voice solutions into their existing environments.

The role will involve a combination of technical design, hands-on engineering, troubleshooting and customer engagement. You'll work closely with internal engineering teams and external enterprise clients, taking ownership of complex voice integration projects and helping develop the underlying platform.

You don't need previous experience with AI or LLMs. Our client is particularly interested in people with strong traditional voice engineering backgrounds who are excited about applying their expertise to emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement and deliver complex voice and telephony integrations within enterprise customer environments.
  • Work with SIP, VoIP, RTP, SBCs and associated voice infrastructure to ensure reliable, high-quality communications.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex signalling, media, connectivity and interoperability issues.
  • Work with enterprise contact-centre platforms and telephony environments, integrating modern voice technologies into existing infrastructure.
  • Engage directly with customers, leading technical discussions, solution design workshops and implementation activities.
  • Work across network, security and infrastructure teams to ensure successful deployment of voice solutions.
  • Monitor and optimise voice performance, focusing on call quality, reliability, latency and scalability.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of internal voice infrastructure, reusable integrations and engineering best practices.
What We're Looking For

We're interested in experienced voice and telephony engineers who have a strong understanding of enterprise voice environments and enjoy working with complex technical challenges.

Ideally, you'll bring experience across several of the following:

  • Strong practical knowledge of SIP, VoIP and voice signalling.
  • Experience working with Session Border Controllers (SBCs), such as AudioCodes, Ribbon, Oracle or Cisco CUBE.
  • Experience with enterprise telephony or contact-centre platforms such as Cisco, Avaya, Genesys, NICE, Alvaria or Amazon Connect.
  • Understanding of RTP, SDP, codecs, media streams and voice quality troubleshooting.
  • Experience diagnosing SIP and network issues using tools such as Wireshark, SIPp, Homer or vendor-specific diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, NAT, firewalls and TLS/SRTP.
  • Experience designing, implementing, integrating or supporting enterprise voice solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with customers and technical stakeholders.
Desirable Experience

Experience in the following areas would be beneficial but is by no means essential:

  • Voice AI, conversational AI, voicebots or AI-powered contact-centre solutions.
  • SIPREC and call recording integrations.
  • Speech-to-Text (STT), Text-to-Speech (TTS) or Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Scripting or automation using Python, Node.js, Bash or similar.
  • Cloud-based telephony and communications platforms.

AI experience is not a prerequisite. The business is happy to invest in training and development for someone with the right voice engineering background.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Join an innovative technology business operating at the forefront of enterprise Voice AI.
  • Work with cutting-edge AI technology without needing an existing AI background.
  • Play a key role in delivering complex enterprise voice solutions.
  • Work alongside an experienced engineering team in a growing Manchester technology hub.
  • Opportunity to influence technical architecture and the ongoing development of the platform.
  • Develop your expertise in one of the fastest-growing areas of enterprise technology.
Additional Requirements
  • Full right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available).
  • Ability to pass a DBS check.
  • Ability to travel occasionally within the UK and Ireland.
