Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor - #2184800
HVAC Recruitment Limited
Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor
West Manchester | £70,000–£90,000 + Package
Mechanical & Electrical Contracting | Building Services | Commercial Management
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor to join an established, profitable and growing Mechanical & Electrical contractor based in West Manchester.
The business delivers a diverse range of mechanical and electrical projects, from smaller works through to multimillion-pound schemes, working with major FM providers, public-sector organisations and direct clients.
Following continued growth and investment, the company is looking to strengthen its commercial function with the appointment of a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor who can take genuine ownership of projects and play an important role in the next stage of the business's development.
This is not simply a role focused on producing valuations and managing subcontractor accounts. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence commercial strategy, improve processes and work directly with an experienced senior management team.
The Opportunity
Working from the company's West Manchester offices, you will take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of M&E projects, typically ranging from £250,000 to £2m+, managing the complete commercial lifecycle from pre-construction through to final account.
The business has particular strength in mechanical building services, including HVAC, heating, plant rooms and associated mechanical installations, alongside a substantial electrical contracting operation.
You will primarily support the core M&E business, while also providing commercial input to associated fire and security and building/fabric contracting businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Full commercial management of multiple mechanical and electrical projects from tender handover through to final account.
- Manage project budgets, cost reporting, cashflow forecasting and profitability.
- Prepare and submit valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
- Manage subcontractor procurement, tender comparisons, appointments, valuations and payments.
- Identify, price, negotiate and agree variations and additional works.
- Monitor project costs, margins, commercial risks and opportunities throughout delivery.
- Manage contractual matters under JCT and NEC forms of contract.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Contracts Managers and Directors to ensure projects are delivered profitably.
- Support estimating, tender reviews and commercial handovers.
- Provide commercial support across associated building services, fire/security and construction operations.
- Help develop and improve commercial procedures, reporting and financial controls.
- Support and mentor junior commercial staff as the business continues to expand.
About You
We are particularly interested in candidates who have developed their careers within an M&E contracting environment and understand the commercial realities of delivering mechanical and electrical projects.
Ideally, you will offer:
- Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, M&E Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager within building services contracting.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical installations, ideally with a mechanical/HVAC bias.
- Experience commercially managing projects valued from £250k through to £2m+.
- Excellent understanding of subcontractor procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts.
- Good working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
- Strong cost-control, forecasting and commercial reporting capabilities.
- Confidence dealing directly with clients, subcontractors and senior operational management.
- A proactive, commercially focused approach with the ability to work independently.
- Relevant Quantity Surveying qualifications would be advantageous, although substantial M&E contracting experience is equally important.
Candidates from a main contractor background will also be considered where they have substantial, directly relevant M&E commercial experience.
What's on Offer?
- £70,000–£90,000 basic salary, dependent on experience.
- Competitive overall employment package.
- Permanent, senior-level appointment within an established and profitable M&E contractor.
- Exposure to a varied portfolio of mechanical and electrical projects.
- Direct access to the senior leadership team, with genuine influence over commercial decisions.
- Opportunity to help shape and improve commercial processes across the business.
- A growing organisation with established client relationships, a strong project pipeline and continued investment.
- Long-term career development as the commercial function and wider group expand.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a business that has already established itself in the North West M&E market and is now entering an exciting new phase of growth.
With a strong operational team, established client relationships and the backing to continue expanding, the company is looking for someone who wants to make a genuine commercial impact rather than simply maintain an existing portfolio.
If you're an experienced M&E Quantity Surveyor looking for greater responsibility, more influence and the opportunity to work closely with decision-makers, we'd be interested in speaking with you.
