Senior Designer (Cars – Grow & Connect)

This is £88 per hour Inside IR35 Umbrella (£660 per day), 37.5 hours per week
This is a freelance contract for 6 months initially, with a view to extend
Hybrid - 2 days per week in the Manchester office

Join the Car Rental group at Booking.com and help shape a key part of the ground transportation experience for travellers. This is a 6‑month contract opportunity supporting the Cars “Grow & Connect” area, providing hands-on design capacity across up to three product teams delivering on their H1 2027 roadmap. You’ll work on initiatives that connect the end-to-end traveller journey across the Booking.com ecosystem—spanning new tools/technology integrations, landing page experiences, and external platform partnerships—while collaborating closely with product, engineering, research, and commercial stakeholders.

Required skills

• Strong product design experience delivering end-to-end UX/UI work (discovery → execution → iteration)
• Ability to work autonomously and at pace in a contract setting, prioritising effectively across multiple streams
• Excellent asynchronous communication skills (clear documentation, proactive updates, structured decision-making)
• Experience planning and running user research and testing, and translating insights into design decisions
• Confident stakeholder communication, including presenting work and findings to cross-functional audiences
• Strong craft in producing high-quality design assets, prototypes, and delivery-ready documentation
• Practical experience with Figma and prototyping workflows
• Consistent application of design systems, brand standards, and accessibility principles
  
  

Nice to have skills

• Experience in travel, booking, e-commerce, or marketplace products
• Familiarity working with commercial partners and cross-business-unit stakeholder groups
• Comfort using modern productivity/AI-assisted design features (e.g., Figma AI, Claude or similar), where appropriate
• Experience designing for complex journeys across multiple touchpoints/products
  
  

Preferred education and experience

• Equivalent practical experience in product design (portfolio demonstrating shipped work, experimentation, and measurable outcomes)
• Experience collaborating with product managers and engineers on multi-team delivery
