The firm works with a broad range of private clients, trustees and family groups, providing both tax compliance and wider advisory support. You will join a collaborative national team with access to experienced senior leadership, wider specialist tax teams and strong opportunities for continued development. The firm offers a genuinely flexible working environment and is open to discussing reduced hours, flexible arrangements and job shares. This is an excellent opportunity to join a large, high-performing Private Client and Trusts team where you will be trusted to manage your own portfolio and given meaningful exposure to both compliance and advisory work.

Your new role

As Trusts Tax Manager, you will take responsibility for managing a varied portfolio of trust clients, overseeing the delivery of high-quality tax compliance and supporting clients with more complex trust and private client advisory matters. You will have plenty of direct client contact and the autonomy to manage your portfolio, while still benefiting from the support of a knowledgeable and experienced team.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a varied portfolio of trust clients and building strong, long-term relationships with trustees and advisers.
  • Reviewing trust tax returns, trust accounts and associated compliance work.
  • Providing advice on trust-related tax matters, including potential changes to trust structures, tax-efficient trust payments and Inheritance Tax planning.
  • Supporting clients with Inheritance Tax reporting and wider private client matters.
  • Attending client meetings and responding confidently to technical queries.
  • Working closely with senior managers and directors to deliver high-quality tax compliance and advisory work.
  • Managing deadlines, workflow and client expectations across your portfolio.
  • Reviewing work completed by junior colleagues and providing constructive feedback.
  • Supporting the development of more junior members of the team, considering their individual career goals and training needs.
  • Building relationships across the wider tax practice and identifying opportunities to collaborate with other specialist teams.
  • Contributing ideas around service delivery, team development and process improvements.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A professional qualification such as CTA or STEP, alongside relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK trusts taxation.
  • Experience managing a varied portfolio of trust clients.
  • Experience reviewing trust accounts and tax returns.
  • Trust and/or Private Client advisory experience.
  • Knowledge of Inheritance Tax reporting and planning.
  • The confidence to lead client conversations and explain technical matters clearly.
  • Experience reviewing work and supporting the development of junior colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Experience working with offshore trusts would be beneficial but is not essential. Applications are also welcomed from individuals who do not meet every requirement but have strong trusts experience and are motivated to continue developing technically.

What you'll get in return

  • A varied and interesting portfolio of trust clients.
  • Exposure to both trusts compliance and advisory work.
  • Regular client contact and responsibility from an early stage.
  • Support from an experienced senior leadership team.
  • Clear opportunities for progression and continued professional development.
  • A collaborative and inclusive working culture.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
