DevOps & Monitoring Lead - #2171572
Socium
DevOps & Monitoring Lead | FinTech | Manchester (Hybrid) | £80,000–£90,000
You’ll have opinions on how software should reach production. We’ll want your opinions on what happens afterwards, too.
This FinTech is bringing delivery engineering and observability under one technical lead. There’s scope to shape both, with hands-on ownership of the tooling and standards its engineering teams use.
The work is substantial. Build a consistent deployment approach across teams, establish visibility across an evolving Azure platform and give engineers the information to find problems earlier.
You’ll be making decisions, building the solutions and getting people using them.
What you’ll get stuck into
- Own Azure DevOps, building shared YAML pipelines and deployment workflows that teams can adopt across their services.
- Shape monitoring and observability across applications, APIs and infrastructure. Connect telemetry, define meaningful service measures and make alerts useful.
- Improve deployment safety and recovery, from PR checks and security scanning through to smoke tests, rollback and incident investigation.
- Put automation and AI-assisted operations to work on anomaly detection, triage and recurring problems.
- Lead the planned move from Jira and Confluence into Azure Boards and Wiki, keeping the history and traceability engineers need.
What we need from you
- Azure DevOps / YAML: You’ve designed reusable pipeline templates for multiple teams, with testing, approvals and security built into the release process.
- Azure Monitor / Application Insights / Log Analytics, or comparable tools: You’ve owned the monitoring approach, chosen useful telemetry and built alerts around service health and customer impact.
- Logs, metrics and distributed tracing: You can follow a failed request across services, investigate latency and establish where a problem starts.
- Azure / .NET environments: Experience supporting applications, APIs and dependencies such as Azure Functions, Azure SQL and Cosmos DB.
- Terraform, Bicep or ARM / scripting: You’ve made environments repeatable and automated operational work that kept coming back.
- Entra ID / managed identities / Key Vault: You understand secure service connections, access and secrets management in production.
- AI-assisted engineering and operations: You’ve explored how AI can improve this work and have examples to talk through — investigating failures, querying telemetry, improving pipelines or automating triage. We’ll want to hear what you tried, how you checked the output and whether it helped.
- Technical leadership: You’ve set standards, helped engineers adopt them and taken responsibility for whether they actually improve delivery.
What you get
£80,000–£90,000 and ownership of a substantial piece of the engineering roadmap. You’ll work alongside Platform Engineers and development teams, with room to shape the approach and stay involved in building it.
