About Northpoint

Established in 1976, Northpoint is an employee-owned business specialising in protective and decorative coatings. From our Dukinfield facility, we provide powder coating and wet paint services for customers across sectors including water, oil and gas, marine, defence and infrastructure.

We take pride in the quality of our work and in understanding what our customers need. Our values include responsible working, fair business practices and opportunities for our people to learn and develop.

About the role

Working within our industrial wet paint department, you’ll prepare, mix and apply coatings to a range of components, ensuring work meets the required finish and specification.

You’ll work closely with the Paint Shop Manager and production colleagues to complete jobs safely and efficiently. You’ll also check your work, report defects and help keep equipment and working areas in good condition.

What you’ll be doing

  • Preparing components for painting, including cleaning, degreasing and masking as required.

  • Mixing and preparing paints in line with manufacturers’ instructions and job specifications.

  • Setting up and operating spray equipment to apply the correct coating system and achieve the required finish.

  • Following job instructions and coating specifications, including application and drying or curing requirements.

  • Checking your work for coverage, finish and coating defects, reporting concerns promptly.

  • Carrying out touch-ups and rework where required.

  • Cleaning spray guns and associated equipment, completing routine checks and reporting maintenance needs.

  • Handling and storing paints, solvents and consumables safely.

  • Completing relevant production and quality records.

  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working area, following Health and Safety, COSHH and environmental procedures.

  • Working with colleagues to meet production schedules while maintaining quality.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need:

  • Practical experience of industrial wet paint spraying within an industrial, manufacturing or engineering environment.

  • A sound understanding of surface preparation, paint mixing, application and finishing techniques.

  • Experience using industrial spray equipment.

  • The ability to follow job instructions and coating specifications.

  • Good attention to detail and the ability to recognise common coating defects.

  • An understanding of safe working practices when handling paints, solvents and spray equipment.

  • A reliable, practical approach and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Helpful, but not essential

The following would be an advantage:

  • Heavy industrial, heavy engineering, fabrication or structural steel coating experience.

  • Experience with conventional pot guns, airless, air-assisted airless or 2K plural component spray equipment.

  • Experience applying high-build epoxy, polyurethane or specialist protective coatings.

  • Knowledge of shot blasting, blast profiles and surface cleanliness standards.

  • Experience checking coating thickness and completing inspection records.

  • Relevant painting, coatings or engineering qualifications.

You don’t need experience with every system listed. We welcome applications from experienced industrial wet paint sprayers who are keen to build on their existing skills.
