Salary: Up to £90,000 + Benefits (DOE)

About the Role

Talent are partnered with an industry-leader in the Tech for Good sector. Connecting millions of essential workforce members with major national brands, their ecosystem acts as a high-scale digital rewards and loyalty engine that processes massive daily transaction volumes and handles high-concurrency traffic across web and mobile platforms.

They are currently investing heavily in their core technology, modernising their platform architecture, and laying the technical foundations for next-generation, AI-assisted software delivery.

The Role & Impact

Working alongside Senior Tech Leads and reporting directly to the CTO, this is a high-visibility technical authority role. You will own the SRE and Platform Engineering practice across the entire engineering organization, driving the strategic direction for platform reliability, telemetry, and developer productivity.

Your core mission is to build reusable IaC frameworks, design enterprise observability systems, and empower product development teams to deploy resilient, high-performing software faster and with maximum operational confidence.

Key Technical Responsibilities

  • Platform Authority & Strategy: Own the evolution of the core cloud ecosystem, establishing IaC standards, infrastructure governance, and SRE best practices.
  • Modern Observability Architecture: Design and deploy comprehensive observability strategies across web and mobile platforms—introducing modern telemetry, distributed tracing, action-oriented dashboards, and proactive alerting.
  • CI/CD & Developer Experience: Re-engineer and optimise Azure DevOps pipelines to dramatically reduce build/deployment cycle times and boost release reliability.
  • IaC In-Housing: Modernise and internalise core Infrastructure as Code assets, elevating architecture standards across cloud-native workloads.
  • Test Automation Orchestration: Partner with dev teams to refine and scale the existing Playwright automation estate, shifting quality and automated testing left.
  • AI-Assisted Engineering Foundations: Shape the platform capabilities required to support spec-driven, AI-assisted software delivery frameworks.
  • Scalability & Resiliency: Continuously evaluate system performance, reliability, and edge-cases across large-scale consumer applications.

Technical Profile & Experience

  • Cloud Platform: Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure (Azure Cloud Services, Azure DevOps, and cloud-native architecture).
  • Infrastructure as Code: Strong production experience writing modular IaC using Bicep, Terraform, or ARM.
  • Observability & Telemetry: Proven track record implementing Enterprise Observability stacks (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Azure Monitor, OpenTelemetry, or ELK/Kibana).
  • Pipeline Automation: Hands-on experience architecting high-speed CI/CD pipelines within Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Automation Frameworks: Familiarity with modern end-to-end testing orchestration, particularly Playwright or modern JavaScript/TypeScript test frameworks.
  • Engineering Culture: Experience mentoring development teams, driving platform adoption, and championing SRE principles across multi-functional engineering squads.

Perks:

  • Competitive Package: Up to £90,000 base salary DOE, private healthcare, performance bonus.
  • Hybrid working: 3 days a week in new offices in Manchester Centre
  • Genuine Autonomy: Direct access to the CTO with full ownership over platform tooling, reliability architecture, and observability tooling selection.
  • Cutting-Edge Stack: Modern cloud engineering and emerging AI-driven software delivery models.
  • High-Impact Domain: Build resilient tech for platforms that deliver real value to millions of UK key workers every day.
