We are working with a well-established, values-driven organisation seeking an experienced Assistant Management Accountant to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive finance professional looking to take ownership of key accounting processes whilst supporting strategic financial reporting and business planning. Operating within a collaborative environment, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and efficiency of the organisation's financial operations.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support the production of monthly management accounts, annual statutory accounts, budgeting and forecasting activities, whilst overseeing day-to-day financial operations. This is a varied position offering exposure across financial reporting, payroll, pensions, cash flow management, compliance and systems administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and departmental financial reports.
- Prepare and post accruals, prepayments, fixed asset, investment and deferred income journals.
- Manage payroll processing, reporting and associated compliance requirements.
- Administer the company pension scheme and monthly pension submissions.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the Sage accounting system.
- Prepare statutory returns, including VAT submissions and regulatory reporting.
- Monitor cash flow, oversee bank reconciliations and manage banking activities.
- Oversee purchase ledger activities, supplier payments and statement reconciliations.
- Manage corporate credit card transactions and expense claim processes.
- Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Ensure financial procedures and system documentation remain accurate and up to date.
- Provide cover for the Management Accountant, including attendance at Finance Committee meetings when required.
What You'll Bring
You will be an experienced finance professional with strong management accounting experience and excellent attention to detail. You'll be comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities and ensuring financial information is accurate and delivered on time. Experience of producing management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and budgeting is essential. Previous experience using Sage accounting software would be highly advantageous, together with a strong understanding of financial controls, compliance requirements and statutory reporting. Strong Excel skills along with a proactive approach to systems improvement are required. Above all, a personable and team-orientated person with a hands-on manner will ensure success in this position for the longer term.
