Contract: Full-Time | 4 - 5 Month Temporary Assignment

Pay Rate: £20.43 per hour PAYE / £26.32 per hour Umbrella

Manchester Youth Justice Service is an exciting and innovative partnership made up of dedicated, caring and hardworking professionals who work closely with courts, young people and their families to achieve positive outcomes and reduce offending.

We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified Youth Justice Probation Officer to join our team on a full-time temporary basis. This is a rewarding yet challenging opportunity for a motivated individual who is passionate about supporting young people to make positive changes and move away from offending behaviour.

Working within a multi-agency environment, you will play a key role in helping children and young people access education, employment, treatment and support services while contributing to the prevention and reduction of youth offending across Manchester.

Day to day of the role:

As a Youth Probation Officer, you will deliver high-quality interventions and support to young people and their families. You will undertake comprehensive assessments of risk, offending behaviour and needs, ensuring that appropriate resources and interventions are identified and delivered.

You will manage a varied caseload and be responsible for developing and implementing evidence-based intervention plans that support young people in achieving positive outcomes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Prepare high-quality reports for Courts and partner agencies in line with National Standards and relevant legislation.
  • Undertake assessments relating to risk of harm, risk of reoffending and offence-related needs.
  • Supervise and manage pre-sentence interventions, community sentences and court orders.
  • Deliver effective interventions aimed at reducing and preventing youth offending.
  • Provide ongoing support and supervision for young people serving Detention and Training Orders (DTOs), custodial sentences and post-release programmes.
  • Develop and implement tailored intervention plans for children, young people and their families.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies to safeguard young people and reduce reoffending.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive case records and data management systems.
  • Manage a complex caseload while ensuring excellent standards of record keeping and professional practice.
  • A recognised Probation Officer qualification or equivalent relevant professional qualification.
  • Experience of working with young people within Youth Justice, Probation, Criminal Justice or related services.
  • Strong assessment, report-writing and case management skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation, youth justice practice and risk assessment frameworks.
  • Experience of working with young people presenting complex and challenging needs.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with young people, families and partner agencies.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and decision-making skills.
  • A commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children, young people and communities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service
