Senior Software Engineer - Java / Kotlin

Location: Manchester (Hybrid - 1 day per week in office)

Contract Type: 6 Months (Strong likelihood of extension)

Rate: £500-595pd inside IR35

About the Client & Opportunity

We are partnering with a world-leading global brand to hire a Senior Software Engineer into their rapidly expanding backend engineering group in Manchester. This team is spearheading the scaling of new insurance and protection offerings across global markets, working on complex end-to-end features, international compliance and high-throughput systems. You'll join an agile, cross-functional team of 8 backend developers, product managers, and QA specialists.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-End Delivery: Take ownership across full feature lifecycles, from refining Agile requirements to writing clean code, deploying, and monitoring in production.

• Core Backend Development: Deliver resilient features using Java or Kotlin, including serverless architecture with AWS Lambda.

• Code Quality & Testing: Write clean, testable code with a strong emphasis on automated unit testing (supported by embedded QA resources).

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Navigate dependencies and communicate blockers clearly to technical and business stakeholders.

Technical Requirements

• Core Stack: Senior-level experience in Java OR Kotlin (experience in both is a bonus).

• Cloud & DevOps: Strong AWS expertise, solid CI/CD understanding and familiarity with modern deployment tools.

• Engineering Standards: Proven experience with Agile methodologies, modern architecture and clean code principles.

• Nice to Haves: React, TypeScript or experience working with data-heavy backend systems. (Note: No previous insurance experience required).
