Consula Group LTD

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-regarded and specialist organisation based in Manchester that operates a Residential Family Assessment Centre. With a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, trauma-informed assessments that genuinely support families and inform the best possible outcomes for children, this organisation is highly respected within the sector and is known for the quality of its practice and the support it provides to its staff.

This is an organisation that invests in its people. You will be joining a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about making a real difference to some of the most vulnerable families in the region.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and skilled Social Worker to join the team at the Residential Family Assessment Centre. This is a specialist and rewarding role that sits at the heart of the assessment process — working directly with families who are residing at the centre, completing comprehensive parenting and risk assessments, and producing high-quality reports that inform court and local authority decision-making.

You will be working within a supportive, multidisciplinary team environment and will have access to regular supervision, specialist training and a clear framework for your practice. This is a role for someone who is confident in their assessment skills, comfortable working within a court-directed framework, and genuinely committed to achieving the best outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Completing thorough, evidence-based parenting capacity and risk assessments for families residing at the centre
  • Working directly and therapeutically with families throughout their placement, building trust whilst maintaining professional boundaries
  • Producing high-quality written assessment reports to a standard suitable for court proceedings and local authority use
  • Attending and contributing to court hearings, professionals' meetings, looked after children reviews and other multi-agency forums as required
  • Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team including family support workers, psychologists and health professionals
  • Maintaining accurate, up-to-date case records and ensuring all documentation meets regulatory and organisational standards
  • Providing regular updates to commissioning local authorities and maintaining strong professional relationships with referring teams
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of assessment practice and the quality of the service

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Social Worker who is confident in their assessment practice and able to work effectively within a specialist residential setting. You will be someone who is resilient, reflective and committed to high-quality practice — someone who can hold complexity, manage risk, and communicate clearly and professionally with families, colleagues and the courts.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification (BA or MA Social Work, CQSW or DipSW) and current registration with Social Work England
  • Proven post-qualifying experience in children and families social work, including experience of completing parenting assessments or working within a residential assessment setting
  • Strong report writing skills with experience of producing court-standard documentation
  • A thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children and the Public Law Outline
  • Experience of working within court proceedings and presenting evidence professionally
  • A reflective, trauma-informed approach to practice and a genuine commitment to working in partnership with families
  • The ability to manage a complex caseload, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines under pressure

What Is on Offer

  • Salary of £50,000 per annum
  • Regular, high-quality supervision and reflective practice opportunities
  • Access to specialist training and continued professional development
  • A supportive, multidisciplinary team environment
  • A genuinely rewarding role with real impact on the lives of children and families
  • Clear career progression opportunities within a specialist and growing organisation
