The Role
As a Principal Developer, you will play a key leadership role in the design, development, and delivery of high-performance SaaS solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, product, and DevOps teams to ensure technical excellence, guide architectural decisions, and mentor fellow developers. This is a hybrid role, with 1-2 days per week required in our Manchester office.

The Role
As a Principal Developer, you will play a key leadership role in the design, development, and delivery of high-performance SaaS solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, product, and DevOps teams to ensure technical excellence, guide architectural decisions, and mentor fellow developers. This is a hybrid role, with 1-2 days per week required in our Manchester office.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable back-end systems using TypeScript and Node.js
- Champion best practices in code quality, performance, and security
- Work cross-functionally with product, DevOps, and design teams
- Help define and evolve the overall system architecture, contributing to long-term technical strategy
- Mentor and support other developers, providing code reviews and technical guidance
- Take ownership of critical services in a production cloud environment
- Extensive commercial experience with Typescript and Node.js
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database design
- Experience with Docker and containerised application development
- Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, ideally Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Strong AWS experience will also be considered
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Proven ability to design and scale high-performance SaaS applications
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code
- Familiarity with front-end frameworks (React, Next.js, etc.)
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and event-driven systems
- Competitive salary of £90,000-£100,000
