DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.

What skills, knowledge and significant experience will you need?

  • Extensive experience and proven track record in designing and delivering infrastructure services and solutions, working within a hybrid server estate including multiple Operating Systems such as Microsoft Windows, multiple Unix or Linux distributions and containerised platforms.
  • Significant experience in providing specialist technical support and assistance to projects ensuring definition and delivery of requisite non-functional requirements to architectural and roadmap developments.
  • Proven ability of supporting and mentoring the development of team members.
  • Significant demonstrable experience of being able to script in multiple languages to deploy, enhance or resolve issues with various operating systems or applications.
  • Significant experience of effectively communicating at different levels, across support and engineering, business users, architecture and suppliers.
  • ITIL Foundation qualified or demonstration of a similar level of experience.

You and your role

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer in the DWP Enterprise Tooling Team, you'll be at the heart of ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the IT services that support the Department for Work and Pensions' systems.

You'll be responsible for:

Engineering elements: Overseeing all aspects of engineering within your product set.

Design and implementation: Focusing on creating and deploying robust IT solutions.

Subject matter expertise: Ensuring the tooling portfolio runs optimally.

ITIL standards: Working across Incident, Problem, and Change management.

Escalation point: Handling live service issues and supporting junior staff and users.

Collaboration: Working with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and customers.

The tooling portfolio includes products like BMC Helix, Flexera, Nlyte, Splunk, Dynatrace, and Cribl. Whilst previous experience with these tools isn't essential as training will be provided, your proficiency in IT infrastructure concepts will be crucial.

Details. Wages. Perks.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Manchester or Newcastle, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £68,517

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth over £16,000 per year.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time.

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.

We have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • An award-winning environment and culture: Employer of the Year 2023 (Women In IT Awards), Founders Award for Outstanding Digital Leadership 2023 (Digital 100)
