Housing Disrepair Fee Earner / Paralegal

Location: Manchester | Working pattern: 50/50 hybrid with flexi time

The opportunity

Standard 8 are working with a long-established, growing claimant law firm that’s adding experienced Housing Disrepair Fee Earners to its Manchester team.

You don’t need to be qualified, and you don’t need to be studying to qualify. If you’re already running your own HDR files as a Paralegal, Fee Earner or Litigation Executive, this role is aimed at you. The firm values hands-on HDR experience as much as a qualification, and pays for it.

What you’ll be doing

  • Running your own caseload of claimant Housing Disrepair claims against councils, housing associations and private landlords
  • Taking files from first instructions through to settlement, and into litigation where needed
  • Handling damp, mould, leaks, heating failures and structural disrepair
  • Reviewing surveyors’ reports, tenancy agreements and medical evidence
  • Drafting Letters of Claim, witness statements and settlement documents
  • Negotiating compensation and repairs with landlords and their solicitors
  • Keeping on top of deadlines and keeping clients updated

What they’re looking for

  • Experience running Housing Disrepair claims for claimants, ideally with your own caseload
  • A working knowledge of the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions Claims and Section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985
  • Confidence negotiating with defendants
  • Good organisation on a busy caseload
  • Some litigation exposure would help, but you’ll get support to develop it
  • Experience with Eclipse Proclaim would be useful but isn’t essential

benefits

  • 50/50 hybrid working with flexi time
  • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
  • An extra day off for your birthday
  • Leave for your child’s first day at school
  • Medicash healthcare cover
  • Staff incentive schemes
  • Ongoing training and real routes to progress

Why this one?

A lot of HDR roles are high volume with little support and no clear path upwards. This firm has an established HDR practice, its Manchester team is growing, and it offers better flexibility than most. If you’re good at running HDR files, you can build a proper career here without having to qualify first.
