Warehouse Team Manager - #2188896
Hays
Your new company
A leading manufacturing organisation is recruiting a Warehouse Team Manager to support its operations function. The business operates in a fast-paced logistics environment where safety, quality, service and efficiency are central to performance. This is an opportunity to lead an internal and external logistics team while supporting continuous improvement, effective communication and organisational change.
Your new role
As Warehouse Team Manager, you will lead day-to-day warehouse and logistics operations covering finished goods, raw materials, stock control, inbound and outbound movements, storage capacity and service to production areas. You will maintain a visible and approachable presence on the shop floor, setting clear standards and helping your team deliver a safe, efficient and reliable service.
You will take responsibility for warehouse safety, risk assessments, working practices, incident reporting, training and compliance. You will also maintain high standards of housekeeping, hygiene and quality, support customer audits and manage the recovery of damaged or rejected stock. A key part of the role will involve monitoring warehouse performance data, including staffing levels, labour hours, stock movements, vehicle activity, warehouse capacity and equipment utilisation. You will use this information to improve productivity, prevent disruption to production and support budget planning.
You will manage labour and overhead costs, investigate stock variances and contribute to cost-saving and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also includes workforce planning, absence and attendance management, performance reviews, cross-training, succession planning and the development of warehouse colleagues.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need proven warehouse management, logistics management or warehouse team leadership experience within a busy operational environment. You should understand finished goods and raw material stock control, delivery scheduling, inventory accuracy, warehouse capacity planning and the movement of materials into production. You will have strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental procedures, including risk assessments, safe working practices, workplace transport and the management of forklift truck training and licences. Experience supporting quality checks, audits, corrective actions and procedural improvements is also required.
You should be confident using warehouse management systems to investigate inventory discrepancies, monitor stock movements and maintain accurate records. Strong commercial awareness is important, including the ability to manage labour costs, overhead expenditure, service levels and operational KPIs. This role requires an effective people manager who can communicate clearly, make sound decisions and lead change. You will be able to set objectives, manage performance, develop team capability and build a culture of accountability, involvement and continuous improvement.
What you'll get in return
A total package of £50,700 per annum is on offer. This includes a shift allowance plus an excellent benefits package, including a matched pension up to 8%, life assurance, health care, bonus scheme and much more. You will work a continental shift pattern of 4 on 4 off (2 days, 2 nights).
You will take on a senior, hands-on warehouse leadership role with responsibility across safety, quality, service, cost, people and operational performance. You will have the opportunity to influence working practices, support business change and develop the capability of a warehouse and logistics team. You will work closely with internal and external customers and contribute directly to the reliable movement of materials and finished goods across the operation. The position offers broad responsibility and the opportunity to deliver measurable improvements across warehouse efficiency, stock accuracy, customer service and team performance.
