AECOM
Senior Bridge Engineer

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Bridge Engineer with experience of bridge design, inspection, assessment, and refurbishment schemes, to join our busy and expanding experienced Manchester Bridges team. Our Manchester office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for over 40 years, in the Northwest but also throughout the UK and overseas. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include long term Framework Agreements with numerous Northwest Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors.

Current projects include a major UK 5-year rail network infrastructure framework assessment contract. In addition to the significant long-term commissions on bridge assessment and inspection, principally in the rail environment, our initial assessment often leads to the requirement for the design of the refurbishment, strengthening, or replacement. We are also at present undertaking the design of the refurbishment schemes such as Manchester Street Viaduct and Yew Tree Footbridge in Knowsley. In addition, we are working on a number of prestigious feasibility studies for several footbridges. We have been commissioned to undertake the detailed design of 2 footbridges in Knowsley. We have recently won few commissions with St. Helens BC and Warrington BC involving structural design works and undertaking principal as well as general inspections. More recently we have taken over the asset management of Knowsley MBC under a framework agreement which is generating a healthy sustained workload. In addition, we have just been commissioned to undertake the feasibility studies of a footbridge in Knowsley and highway bridge in Wigan. As a Senior Bridge Engineer you will have the following daily responsibilities:

  • Undertake rail and road bridges and associated structural engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design.
  • Assist with supervision of Engineers, Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate.
  • Assist with preparation of technical documentation through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation.
  • Leading on technical design on road and/or rail structures.
  • Leading on assessment of road and/or rail structures.
  • Hands on or leading feasibility studies of bridge structures
  • Structural inspections and reporting.
  • Excellent technical and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Client liaison.
  • Assist with the production of Design Risk Assessment
  • Assist with production of tenders including quality documentation and costings.
  • Assist with Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management, and delivery.

We develop projects from concept through operation providing engineering and construction services for multiyear, multimillion-dollar projects for major rail and transit agencies. Our specialists provide analytical and strategic expertise for every stage of a project

And let's not forget about the perks at AECOM. You'll enjoy a range of core and personalised benefits designed to support your future and well-being, customized to fit your lifestyle. Take advantage of career development opportunities, our flexible hybrid working model to ensure a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days.
