PACE Recruitment
Project Director – Construction

Location: Manchester City Centre (Piccadilly area)

Salary: Circa £100,000 + Package, Bonus & Future Growth Opportunities

A highly successful, multi-sector main contractor is seeking an ambitious Project Director to lead its expansion into Manchester and establish a new regional division.

With an established 15-year track record of delivering projects across the South, the business is now looking to expand into the North West, offering an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Project Director, Contracts Director or senior construction professional to build and lead a regional operation.

Reporting directly to the Business Director, the successful candidate will take full responsibility for establishing the Manchester division, developing new client relationships, securing work and overseeing project delivery.

The Role – Project Director:

  • Establish and develop a new regional construction division, with full operational and financial backing from the established Southern business.
  • Lead the regional growth strategy, targeting £5m–£10m annual turnover within the first few years.
  • Oversee construction projects typically valued up to £5m, taking responsibility from initial tender and pre-construction through to project delivery and final handover.
  • Lead commercial management, contract negotiations, procurement and overall project performance.
  • Develop new business opportunities and establish relationships with clients, developers, subcontractors and suppliers across Manchester and the North West.
  • Recruit, manage and develop a local construction team as the regional business expands.
  • Work closely with the Southern leadership team to drive sustainable business growth.

Requirements – Project Director / Construction Director:

  • Proven experience as a Project Director, Contracts Director, Construction Director, Operations Director or similar senior-level position.
  • Background working for a main contractor within the construction industry.
  • Strong technical and commercial knowledge, including construction contracts, contract law and commercial management.
  • Experience managing projects from tender and pre-construction through to completion and handover.
  • Established network of construction clients, subcontractors and suppliers across Manchester or the wider North West.
  • Strong business development, leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Experience within pharmaceutical, healthcare, defence or other complex construction sectors would be advantageous.

The Opportunity:

This is a rare opportunity to join an established main contractor at a pivotal stage of its regional expansion.

Rather than taking over an existing operation, the successful candidate will have the autonomy to build a Manchester division from the ground up, develop their own team and play a major role in shaping the future of the business.

The position offers a circa £100,000 basic salary, with flexibility for the right candidate, alongside an attractive package, bonus potential and significant long-term career and progression opportunities.
