Senior Structural Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - £60,000

Location: Manchester

Benefits: Clear progression pathway, profit-share opportunities, real project ownership, strong staff retention culture, flexible salary for the right candidate, exposure to public sector and local authority projects.

This Senior Structural Engineer opportunity offers the chance to join a growing multidisciplinary consultancy where you will take ownership of projects from concept through to delivery.

You'll play a key role within an established structures team, working on a diverse range of public sector and local authority schemes while enjoying genuine autonomy and responsibility.

You will be joining a business that has grown significantly over the last decade and continues to invest in its people and future growth.

This opportunity offers a clear route towards Associate Director level, with the potential to develop and lead your own team as the business continues its ambitious expansion plans.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will become a key member of a thriving structural engineering team based in Greater Manchester. Working within a well-established multidisciplinary environment, you'll be trusted to lead projects, manage client relationships, and support the development of junior engineers.

Unlike larger consultancies where responsibilities can become highly compartmentalised, this Senior Structural Engineer role offers true ownership of projects and direct involvement in decision-making. The successful Senior Structural Engineer will have the opportunity to contribute to business growth, influence project delivery, and progress into a leadership position.

Projects are typically focused on local authority and public sector developments, providing varied technical challenges and long-term workload stability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural engineering projects from feasibility through to completion.
  • Manage and coordinate project delivery, ensuring quality, programme, and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support graduate and junior engineers.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across structural, civil, bridges, and infrastructure disciplines.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Contribute to business development activities and identify opportunities for future work.
  • Support the continued growth and development of the structures team.

What You'll Need

  • Experience working as a Senior Structural Engineer within a consultancy environment.
  • Ideally Chartered status or working towards chartership with a recognised professional body.
  • Strong understanding of UK design standards and engineering principles.
  • Experience delivering building structures projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior engineers.
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in contributing to business growth would be highly advantageous.

Why Apply?

  • Join an established consultancy with 100+ permanent staff and a growing national presence.
  • Clear and realistic progression route towards Associate Director level.
  • Opportunity to build and develop your own team as the business grows.
  • Genuine project ownership and responsibility.
  • Strong culture of staff retention and internal promotion.
  • Stable pipeline of public sector and local authority projects.
  • Work within an organisation targeting consistent annual growth and ongoing investment in senior talent.
  • Flexible approach to salary depending on experience, chartership status, and leadership capabilities.
