Senior Project Engineer (Transmission & Grid Infrastructure)

Location: Manchester (Hybrid Working)

Contract: Outside IR35

Day Rate: £550-£600 per day

Contract Duration: up to 01/11/2027

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support the delivery of major UK transmission and renewable energy infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in projects that help connect renewable energy generation, offshore wind developments, and critical grid infrastructure to the UK's power network.

The Role

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the engineering delivery of high-voltage transmission equipment packages from concept through to commissioning. Working within a multidisciplinary project team, you will coordinate technical activities, manage stakeholders, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities across major transmission and renewable energy projects.
• Manage the delivery of HV equipment packages, including design, manufacture, testing, installation, and commissioning.
• Coordinate internal teams, suppliers, contractors, and client stakeholders.
• Monitor project costs, schedules, risks, quality, and safety performance.
• Support technical reviews, engineering governance, and project reporting.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and health & safety regulations.

About You

We're interested in speaking with candidates who have:

• Experience delivering high-voltage transmission, substation, or grid infrastructure projects.
• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A strong understanding of transmission equipment such as transformers, GIS/HIS switchgear, reactors, control & protection systems, SCADA, and associated HV equipment.
• Experience managing engineering packages, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Experience

• National Grid transmission projects.
• Renewable energy grid connections.
• Offshore wind or HVDC projects.
• EPC, utility, or major infrastructure environments.
