Looking for the right school for you in Manchester?

Half term is a great time to think about what you want from the new term. Maybe that's a different school, the flexibility of supply, a permanent role, or a fresh start in teaching. Whatever you're looking for, tell us and we'll do the legwork of finding the right fit.

About Empowering Learning

We're an education recruitment agency connecting qualified, committed teachers and support staff with schools across Greater Manchester. We take the time to get to know every teacher, so the schools we suggest fit your experience, teaching style and availability. We also look after your registration, compliance, placements and pay, so you can concentrate on teaching.

The opportunity

We're growing our Manchester teaching pool and want to meet primary teachers with QTS who'd like to work in the city centre and the areas around it. Our schools include busy inner-city primaries, small community schools and large multi-form entry academies. You choose how you work:

  • Daily supply: pick the days that suit you and fit teaching around your life
  • Long-term supply: block bookings, including maternity and absence cover, so you can settle in with one class
  • Permanent roles: we'll help you find the right school and guide you through the process

You'll always have one person on our team who knows what you're looking for and matches you to the right schools.

Day to day

  • Plan and teach engaging, well-structured lessons in line with the national curriculum and the school's planning, where it's provided
  • Teach EYFS, KS1 and/or KS2, depending on your experience and preference
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour in line with each school's behaviour policy
  • Create a safe, inclusive and supportive classroom where every pupil can learn
  • Track progress, mark work and give feedback as the booking requires
  • Support pupils with SEND and EAL, working alongside the SENCo and teaching assistants
  • Follow school procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety and the code of conduct
  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • Communicate professionally with school staff, leadership teams and, where required, parents and carers

About you

  • Recent primary teaching experience in the UK, or your ECT induction completed
  • Confident behaviour management and strong communication

  • The right to work in the UK
  • Willingness to complete our full registration and compliance process

Desirable

  • Experience in EYFS, KS1 and/or KS2
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND or EAL, including children who speak English as an additional language
  • Experience of phonics programmes (e.g. Read Write Inc, Little Wandle) or primary maths mastery
  • A clean, enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
  • Flexibility to take both short-notice and long-term bookings

ECTs welcome: we'll explain how supply and long-term placements can sit alongside your induction.

Why this role?

Our registration and safer recruitment process

We follow safer recruitment practices in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and our obligations under the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003. All teachers who register with Empowering Learning go through a full set of pre-placement checks before working in any school. These include:

  • An interview (in person or by video) to discuss your experience, motivation and suitability for working with children
  • Proof of identity, including photographic ID and proof of address
  • Right to work verification (including online share code checks where applicable)
  • An enhanced DBS check with barred list check, plus Update Service registration where possible
  • Verification of your qualifications, including QTS
  • A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) check to confirm you are not prohibited from teaching
  • Two satisfactory references, covering at least the last five years of employment or study, including your most recent employer
  • Overseas criminal record checks (or equivalent) if you have lived or worked outside the UK
  • A full employment history, with any gaps explained
  • Medical fitness confirmation for the role
  • Completion of safeguarding training, including up-to-date knowledge of KCSIE Part One

We'll support you through each stage and keep you updated, so you know exactly what's needed and when you can start work. Please note that all placements are subject to these checks being completed to our and the school's satisfaction.
