Solar on steroids
Recruitment Specialist
Function: Internal Hiring │ Talent Acquisition │ Client Recruitment
Reports to: CEO
Location: Manchester, hybrid (2 days a week in the office, more during onboarding)
Hours: Full-time
Compensation: £42,000–£50,000 base salary
Bonuses: Commission on client placements and individual bonuses, plus team-wide bonuses when we hit company milestones
Background
We grew 61x in 2025 and are aiming for 5x in 2026 and 2x in 2027. That growth runs on people, and right now hiring is the bottleneck. That’s why this role exists.
You’ll own how Solar on Steroids hires, end to end. Every new vertical we open needs a pod of three, and the goal is to be able to stand one up in six weeks. You’ll fill our own seats, from media buyers to creative strategists to client success managers, and build the job descriptions, scorecards, videos and funnels that make the right people want to work here.
At the same time, you’ll launch our recruitment offering for clients: finding the sales staff, surveyors, fitters and office staff our installers need to keep up with the demand we create for them. Our client success managers pitch it, you deliver it, and you earn commission on every placement.
You won’t be doing it alone. Hayra, our recruitment partner, sources candidates for our internal roles while you qualify and close them. You’ll recruit with the same video ads and funnels that win installers their customers, and you’ll have a direct line to the CEO, so hiring decisions never sit in a queue.
We’re looking for someone ambitious who moves fast, can find people who aren’t looking, and can tell an A-player from a good interviewer.
Why Solar on Steroids?
We’re the UK’s biggest solar marketing agency, behind roughly 3% of every solar installation in the country, with over £30m in sales generated for more than 60 installers. Every quote and sale we generate pulls through live onto our own website, so there’s nowhere to hide. That’s how we like it.
Solar on Steroids is the first business under the On Steroids brand. We’ve launched Windows on Steroids for window and door installers, with more home services verticals to follow, and this role hires across all of them. Our core service is one thing done exceptionally well: high-production video ads for ambitious home services businesses. Each shoot becomes 30 or more ads, and we produce over 200 a week. Around that core, we’re building a small set of services that solve the next problems our clients hit as they grow, and recruitment is one of them.
AJ Renewables made over £583,000 in 30 days from £17,000 of ad spend. Hear our clients in their own words at solaronsteroids.com/wall-of-love.
Main Accountabilities
- Fill our own seats: media buyers, creative strategists, client success managers and the other roles we need as we grow. Headhunt candidates yourself, field inbound applicants and work with Hayra on sourcing.
- Support our creative strategists in building our freelance bench of editors, designers and videographers.
- Qualify and close: screen every applicant properly, run the phone calls, manage trial tasks with whoever has the experience in that field, and get the right people to a yes. Our co-founders run the final interview.
- Make a new pod possible in six weeks: three roles, found, hired and ready to start, every time we open a new pod or vertical.
- Lead our hiring strategy: the job descriptions, scorecards, recruitment videos, careers pages, funnels and interview process. Build the assets that make the right people want to work here and put the wrong ones off early.
- Run the recruiting CRM: every candidate, every stage and every decision recorded, so hiring never lives in an inbox.
- Launch our client recruitment offering. Our client success managers pitch it; you deliver it. Whatever an installer needs, from sales staff to surveyors to fitters to office staff, find, qualify and place them using our own video ads and funnels, and earn commission on every placement.
- Help new starters land: support onboarding so every new hire is set up to succeed from day one, and spend more time in the office when new team members are starting.
- Improve how we do it: work with Leo, our Systems Architect, on the data, systems and processes that make hiring faster and more consistent.
Success in 6 Months
- Our open internal roles filled with people who meet the scorecard, with a healthy pipeline for the roles coming next.
- A new pod of three found, hired and ready to start within six weeks of being opened.
- Every candidate, stage and decision tracked in the recruiting CRM.
- Our hiring assets rebuilt: job descriptions, scorecards, recruitment videos, careers pages and funnels.
- The client recruitment offering launched, with first placements made for installers.
- Every new starter onboarded and set up to succeed from their first day.
Attitude: You,
- Can find people who aren’t looking, and make them want to talk to you;
- Can tell an A-player from a good interviewer, and hire for attitude as much as skill;
- Run a pipeline of roles at once without dropping a candidate;
- Are commercial, and the idea of a client offering with commission excites you;
- Move fast and own outcomes, not tasks, with nobody hovering over your shoulder asking if it’s done yet;
- Are energised by being measured on ownership, consistency, communication, operational maturity, commercial contribution and leadership, because you’ll use the same scorecard to hire everyone else.
Experience & Skills
- Plenty of hands-on experience headhunting and qualifying candidates, whether in an agency or in-house.
- Able to create your own recruitment content: job ads, LinkedIn posts and outbound sequences.
- Recruitment experience in marketing, agencies or home services is a strong advantage.
- Strong organisation and record-keeping across multiple live roles and a recruiting CRM.
- Able to be in our Manchester office two days a week, and more during onboarding periods.
The Benefits of Working at Solar on Steroids
- You recruit with the best ad machine in the market. We already build video job ads and funnels for our own hiring, and you get the same creative and media buying that wins installers their customers, pointed at candidates.
- Two sides of the same job. You hire our own team and place people into our clients’ businesses. The skills are the same, and the client side earns you commission.
- A sourcing partner alongside you. Hayra sources candidates for our internal roles, so you spend your time on the conversations that matter.
- A direct line to the CEO. Hiring decisions don’t sit in a queue.
- Competitive pay. £42,000–£50,000 base salary, plus commission on client placements, individual bonuses and team-wide bonuses when we hit company milestones.
- Real room to climb. Charlotte joined as our first full-time hire in August 2025 as a Creative Strategist, became Senior Creative Strategist in December 2025, and moved into Client Success & Delivery Lead in September 2026. As the client recruitment offering grows, so does the team you lead.
- AI-first, on purpose. Our own AI operating system pulls data from every platform we use each night, with an AI layer that answers questions and acts on our tools in plain English. Leo, our Systems Architect, gets you everything you need from a data, systems and process perspective, so you can do your job 10x more effectively than anywhere else.
- 28 days’ paid holiday, plus Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve off.
- Hybrid working. Two days a week in our Manchester office, the rest from home, plus 10 days a year working remotely from abroad.
- Clients who are genuinely great fun. Many are ex-trade who got off the tools and built their own businesses, so there are no stuffy “circle back” conversations.
- A speedboat, not a freight ship. Our founders left big corporations where good ideas died in red tape. Here, a decision made Monday morning is tested Monday afternoon and rolled out Tuesday.
- The latest software and equipment, MacBook included, plus great team socials.
Application Process
1. Screening call. A 30-minute call with our screening team.
2. First stage. A 60-minute interview with the hiring managers.
3. Final stage. A task, presented back to the hiring manager team.
4. Coffee catch-up. An informal coffee with the team, so we can get to know you outside the workplace.
