Senior AI and Software Developer

Location: Manchester (Hybrid)

Salary: up to £70,000 DOE

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for an experienced developer to join a growing business looking to bring AI further into its day-to-day operations through the development of intelligent applications and bespoke software solutions.

Looking for someone with a strong interest in AI who can combine solid software engineering skills with experience building practical, AI-powered tools. You'll have the opportunity to work on new projects from the ground up, experimenting with emerging technologies and turning ideas into solutions that solve real business problems.

This is a varied role where you'll have genuine ownership over what you build, from exploring new AI capabilities and designing technical solutions through to developing, integrating and deploying applications.

THE ROLE

• Design, develop and maintain software applications, with a strong focus on backend development and system integrations.
• Build AI-powered features and applications using LLMs, including intelligent document processing, information extraction and automated workflows.
• Develop retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions that connect LLMs with internal data, documents and other knowledge sources.
• Build and integrate APIs to connect applications, databases, CRM platforms and third-party services.
• Develop automated workflows that combine traditional programming, business logic and AI capabilities.
• Contribute to technical architecture and make decisions around how applications and services are designed, built and integrated.
• Take ownership of projects from requirements gathering and technical design through to development, testing and deployment.
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand business challenges and translate them into effective software solutions.
• Improve the reliability, performance and scalability of existing applications and integrations.
• Explore new AI tools and technologies where they can add genuine value to the business.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a well-rounded Software Developer with strong core development skills and the ability to apply these to AI-focused projects. You should be comfortable building software in your own right, rather than focusing solely on AI models or experimentation.

Experience across a combination of the following would be ideal:

• Software development: A solid background in developing and delivering applications, with strong programming fundamentals and experience writing clean, maintainable code.
• Python: Strong experience using Python for backend development, application logic, integrations or automation.
• Backend systems and APIs: Experience designing and building backend services, REST APIs and integrations between different systems and data sources.
• AI and LLMs: Practical experience integrating large language models into applications or developing AI-powered functionality.
• Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG): Experience building or implementing RAG pipelines that enable LLMs to retrieve and use relevant information from documents, databases or other knowledge sources.
• Application architecture: An understanding of how to design reliable, scalable applications and make appropriate technical decisions.
• Web development: Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML and building web-based applications or interfaces.
• Data and integrations: Experience working with databases, external APIs and structured or unstructured data.
• Problem-solving: The ability to understand business requirements and turn them into practical, well-designed technical solutions.
• End-to-end delivery: Confidence taking ownership of projects from initial concept through to implementation and ongoing improvement.
