Senior Test Engineer - Payments Platform - #2166392
Murmuration
The Role
As our Senior Test Engineer, you'll own quality at Murmuration. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you'll set up our test automation and quality practices to ensure the payments platform that processes card and card payments is of high quality and robust.
About Murmuration
Murmuration is a new technology company building the core platform that credit unions run on. We provide the software, payments, and data infrastructure that lets a credit union offer its members modern digital banking without having to build or run the technology itself.
Credit unions are member-owned and rooted in their communities, but many still operate on systems that are decades old, which limits what they can offer their members. We're building the alternative.
We're a new company, putting our platform and our first engineering team in place now, with the backing of an established group. For people who join early, that means a real say in the product, the architecture, and how the company works.
What you'll be doing
- Define and build the test strategy and automation framework for the payments platform, across API and integration layers.
- Write and maintain automated tests and run them in our CI/CD pipelines
- Own quality across the development lifecycle, testing earlier and making it a shared responsibility across the team
- Design test approaches for card payments and card issuance where correctness and edge cases matter
- Run and automate regression, integration, performance, and security-aware testing
- Investigate, reproduce, and clearly report defects, and verify fixes
- Help set up QA standards, processes, and tooling as one of the first engineers in the team
- Work with engineers to build testability into the product early
What you'll bring to Murmuration
- Strong experience as a Test/QA Engineer or SDET, with a focus on test automation
- Hands-on experience with automation frameworks for API testing.
- Proficiency in a programming or scripting language (e.g. JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or Java)
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
- A solid grasp of testing strategy across the test pyramid
- Strong attention to detail, ideally from a high-trust or regulated domain
Standout candidates will also...
- Experience testing fintech, banking, or payments systems where accuracy matters
- Experience with performance and/or security testing
- Experience building a test automation practice or framework where none existed
- Experience with contract testing and testing distributed systems
Benefits
- Salary of £50,000 – £75,000 depending on experience
- 30 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays
- Hybrid working from our Manchester office
- Company pension scheme
- An early, hands-on role building a new platform and team
- Structured career path with support for ongoing learning and development
