The Resource Class Teacher will provide high-quality teaching and learning for pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) within the school's Resource Provision. The successful candidate will create an inclusive, nurturing, and ambitious learning environment that enables pupils to achieve their full academic, social, emotional, and personal potential.Working collaboratively with school leaders, support staff, parents/carers, and external agencies, the Resource Class Teacher will ensure that pupils receive personalised support and access to a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum tailored to their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality lessons that meet the individual learning needs of pupils within the Resource Provision.
- Adapt and differentiate teaching strategies to support a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Cognition and Learning Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Develop and implement personalised learning plans, intervention programmes, and EHCP outcomes.
- Maintain high expectations of behaviour, achievement, attendance, and engagement.
- Use effective assessment strategies to monitor progress and inform future planning.
- Create a positive, structured, and nurturing learning environment that promotes independence and resilience.
- Support pupils in accessing mainstream learning opportunities where appropriate.
- Contribute to annual reviews, EHCP assessments, and pupil progress meetings.
- Work closely with the SENDCo to ensure provision is effective and compliant with statutory requirements.
- Implement recommendations from educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals.
- Ensure that individual pupil targets are clearly understood and consistently supported by all staff.
- Lead and support teaching assistants working within the Resource Provision.
- Provide clear direction, modelling, and coaching to support staff to ensure high-quality interventions and classroom practice.
- Work collaboratively with mainstream teachers to promote successful inclusion across the school.
- Contribute to whole-school SEND development and improvement priorities.
- Attend and contribute to relevant meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of all pupils.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where pupils feel valued and respected.
- Follow all school safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety, and SEND policies.
- Support pupils' personal development, emotional wellbeing, communication, and social skills.
- Develop effective relationships with parents and carers, ensuring regular communication regarding progress and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with external professionals and agencies to secure the best outcomes for pupils.
- Support transition arrangements for pupils joining or leaving the Resource Provision.
Person Specification
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Evidence of continued professional development related to SEND.
- Successful experience teaching primary-aged children.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND.
- Experience assessing pupil progress and using assessment to inform planning.
- Experience working effectively with teaching assistants and multi-disciplinary professionals.
- Experience of developing personalised learning programmes.
