Development Underwriter - #2160599

An established specialist insurer is looking for a Development Underwriter to join its growing Life Sciences team. Life Sciences experience is not essential, training and support will be provided.

The role

This is a dedicated development role covering a varied portfolio of Life Sciences risks, including medical technology, digital health, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and clinical research.

The role combines technical underwriting with commercial broker engagement. Alongside underwriting and converting new business opportunities, you will build relationships with national, regional and specialist brokers, identify areas for growth and support market engagement activity. The team is looking for someone who enjoys getting out into the market, can confidently present the proposition and trade effectively with brokers.

Skills & experience

Essential

• Relevant commercial underwriting experience, including Commercial Combined, P&C or Life Sciences
• Understanding of SME and mid-market commercial risks
• Exposure to underwriting and winning new business
• Strong risk assessment and commercial decision-making skills
• Ability to build credible relationships with brokers
• Confidence in broker meetings, presentations and trading conversations
• A self-sufficient approach and the ability to manage your own diary
• Willingness to travel regularly for broker visits

Desirable

• Life Sciences underwriting or broking experience
• An established broker network
• Experience developing broker panels and opening new trading relationships
