About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Years SEN Tutor to provide personalised, one-to-one support to young children across Manchester.

This role is ideal for an experienced Early Years practitioner or SEN tutor who is passionate about supporting young children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and helping them develop the skills, confidence and foundations they need to thrive.

You will provide engaging, highly individualised learning and developmental support, using a child-centred and play-based approach to help children develop their communication, language, social, emotional, cognitive and early learning skills.

The role is particularly suited to someone who understands that young children learn best through play, repetition, exploration, routine and positive relationships.

Tuition and support may be delivered in the child's home, a community setting, an early years setting, or another suitable agreed location across Manchester.

Hours will vary depending on the individual child's needs and referral. Flexibility may be required, particularly around nursery and school hours.

About the Children

The children you support may have a range of additional needs and developmental differences, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC/ASD)
  • ADHD
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Global Developmental Delay (GDD)
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Sensory Processing Needs
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Developmental and communication difficulties
  • Delayed early literacy or numeracy skills
  • Difficulties with attention, engagement or regulation
  • Difficulties accessing a mainstream Early Years environment
  • Children with EHCPs or emerging SEND needs

You will need to be confident adapting your approach to meet each child's individual needs and creating a calm, nurturing and structured environment in which they feel safe, supported and able to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, one-to-one Early Years SEN tuition and developmental support.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate, play-based learning activities.
  • Support children's early development across communication, language, literacy, numeracy, physical development and social skills.
  • Develop activities that encourage attention, listening, turn-taking, interaction and independence.
  • Adapt teaching approaches, resources and activities to suit individual SEND profiles.
  • Support children to work towards their EHCP outcomes, individual targets and developmental goals.
  • Support school readiness, including routines, communication, independence and confidence.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children and their families.
  • Use children's interests and strengths to encourage engagement and learning.
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records of learning, development and engagement.
  • Provide appropriate feedback and updates to parents, carers, settings and relevant professionals.
  • Work collaboratively with families, Early Years practitioners, SENCOs and other professionals involved in the child's development.
  • Promote positive behaviour and support children's emotional regulation using appropriate, nurturing strategies.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safeguarding and the wellbeing of every child.

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for tutors and Early Years practitioners who have:

  • Strong experience working with Early Years children, ideally aged 2-5.
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND/SEN.
  • A good understanding of Early Years development and the EYFS.
  • Experience supporting children with autism, speech and language needs, ADHD or other developmental needs.
  • The ability to create engaging, play-based learning opportunities.
  • A patient, nurturing and child-centred approach.
  • The ability to adapt activities and communication styles to meet individual needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to engage children who may be anxious, reluctant or have difficulty communicating.
  • Experience working collaboratively with parents, carers and other professionals.
  • The ability to work independently and confidently within an outreach environment.
