An established and highly regarded independent property consultancy is looking to appoint a Director of Cost Consultancy to support the continued growth of its Cost Consultancy service line across the North.

This is a senior, client-facing opportunity for an experienced Cost Consultant / Quantity Surveyor who combines strong technical delivery with commercial awareness and an established network of industry contacts. You will work closely with the existing senior leadership team to develop the service line, strengthen client relationships and identify new opportunities across the UK.

You will work across a varied portfolio of high-profile projects and clients, with exposure to sectors including industrial and logistics, retail, office, residential, Build to Rent and purpose-built student accommodation. Projects will range from development and major refurbishment schemes through to wider asset management and investment-led work.

Director of Cost Consultancy Job Overview:

As Director of Cost Consultancy, you will play a key role in developing and growing the Cost Consultancy service line, while remaining hands-on with the delivery of projects and client advice.

You will work alongside the existing senior leadership team to develop the regional and wider UK business, maintain and expand existing client relationships and identify opportunities to diversify the service offering. The role will suit someone who enjoys combining technical delivery, leadership and business development and who is looking to have a genuine influence on the continued growth of a consultancy.

The role will include:

• Supporting the strategic development and growth of the Cost Consultancy service line across the UK

• Managing and delivering end-to-end cost consultancy services

• Providing high-level strategic cost advice, cost planning and cost modelling

• Preparing development appraisals, feasibility studies and cashflow forecasts

• Advising on procurement, contractual strategy and tender processes

• Managing project costs through the construction lifecycle, including change control, reporting and final accounts

• Providing benchmarking and market-testing advice

• Working across industrial, logistics, retail, office, residential, Build to Rent and PBSA projects

• Working on development, refurbishment, redevelopment and investment-led projects

• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with investors, institutional clients, developers, owners and occupiers

• Identifying new business opportunities and generating additional instructions

• Supporting the development of existing client accounts and identifying opportunities for cross-selling wider consultancy services

• Working with senior colleagues across development, built asset, engineering and sustainability disciplines

• Supporting business planning and setting measurable objectives for the service line

• Contributing to marketing activity, case studies and capability material

• Championing best practice, quality control and consistency across the team

• Supporting operational and process improvements, including the adoption of new technology and ways of working

• Mentoring and developing junior and senior members of the Cost Consultancy team

• Contributing to knowledge sharing and developing a strong community of practice

Director of Cost Consultancy Job Requirements:

• MRICS qualified

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management or a related discipline

• Significant experience within a consultancy environment

• Strong technical background across cost consultancy and quantity surveying

• Proven experience delivering cost consultancy services from feasibility through to completion

• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the property and construction markets

• Established network of investor, developer, institutional or commercial property contacts

• Demonstrable business development and fee-generation experience

• Confident managing senior client relationships and winning new instructions

• Strong leadership and people-management skills

• Commercially minded with the ability to identify opportunities and develop them into new business

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Comfortable operating at both strategic and hands-on delivery level

• Able to manage multiple projects, priorities and client requirements effectively
