Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Ocean Import Clerk to join a well-established international freight forwarding business based in Trafford Park, Manchester.

Working within a busy ocean freight team, you will take responsibility for coordinating import shipments from origin through to final delivery, ensuring customers receive a professional, efficient and proactive service throughout.

This would suit someone with previous ocean imports or freight forwarding experience who is comfortable managing their own shipments and communicating with customers, shipping lines, overseas agents and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing ocean import shipments from booking through to final delivery
• Handling both FCL and LCL import movements
• Liaising with shipping lines, overseas agents, hauliers and customers
• Tracking shipments and providing customers with regular updates
• Preparing and processing relevant import documentation
• Coordinating customs clearance requirements
• Arranging collections and onward deliveries
• Checking shipping documentation and ensuring information is accurate
• Managing vessel arrivals, releases and delivery instructions
• Monitoring potential delays, demurrage and storage issues
• Resolving shipment queries quickly and professionally
• Maintaining accurate records on internal freight systems
• Building strong relationships with customers and providing a high level of service

About You

We are looking for someone with:

• Previous experience within ocean/sea freight imports
• Experience gained within a freight forwarding or logistics environment
• Good understanding of the end-to-end import process
• Knowledge of FCL and LCL shipments
• Understanding of import and customs documentation
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Good attention to detail and organisational ability
• Confidence managing multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously
• A proactive approach to problem solving
• Ability to work effectively as part of a busy freight forwarding team
