Electrical Design Engineer - #2150927

Location: Manchester

A well-established power generation and energy solutions business is looking to appoint an Electrical Design Engineer to join its Manchester-based Design team.

The business delivers power generation, low-carbon energy and battery storage solutions across the UK and internationally, supporting clients across industrial, commercial and infrastructure environments.

You will be responsible for the design and development of LV and HV electrical systems, supporting projects across power generation, distribution and battery energy storage.

Working closely with Design Engineers, Project Managers, suppliers, DNOs and clients, you will produce electrical designs and technical documentation from initial design through to construction and as-built stages.

• Design and develop LV and HV electrical networks, taking relevant UK Grid Code requirements into consideration.

• Produce electrical designs for systems ranging from 0.4kV to 32kV and 24VDC to 1500VDC.

• Design DC electrical systems for BESS projects, working with battery and inverter suppliers.

• Design power generation, electrical distribution and earthing systems for new projects and modifications to existing installations.

• Liaise directly with UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) on technical requirements and project interfaces.

• Develop LV/HV protection schemes, discrimination studies and protection relay requirements.

• Undertake electrical cable sizing using Amtech.

• Prepare specifications for LV/HV switchboards, transformers, reactors and associated HV equipment.

• Review control panel drawings, electrical schematics, vendor documentation and technical data sheets.

• Produce electrical drawings using AutoCAD.

• Support Project, Sales and Service teams with technical design requirements.

• Liaise with clients, suppliers and internal engineering teams to ensure information is delivered accurately and on programme.

• Attend sites when required to review design progress and update as-built information.

• Maintain technical documentation, drawing standards and document control procedures.

You will be responsible for producing and maintaining documentation including:

• Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)

• Block Cable Diagrams

• Cable Schedules

• Control & Instrumentation Documents

• Loop Diagrams

• Earthing Layouts

• Functional Design Specifications

• Protection Settings

• Cause & Effect Documents

The successful candidate should have experience within electrical power systems and be comfortable working across both LV and HV design.

Relevant experience should include:

• LV/HV electrical network design

• Electrical distribution and power generation systems

• HV protection and discrimination

• Cable sizing and electrical calculations

• Amtech cable sizing software

• AutoCAD

• Switchgear, transformers and associated HV equipment

• Electrical schematics and technical documentation

• UK electrical standards and relevant BS standards

• CDM regulations and current HSE requirements

• Working within controlled design and ISO quality procedures

Experience within BESS, distributed generation, power generation, grid connection or DNO-connected projects would be particularly relevant.
