Mortgage Underwriter - Hybrid Working After Probation | Funded CeMAP | Genuine Career Progression
Are you experienced in assessing or processing lending applications and looking to build a long-term career in mortgage underwriting?
We are recruiting for a Mortgage Underwriter to join a growing specialist lender. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your underwriting expertise within second-charge mortgage lending, with structured training, funded qualifications and clear opportunities to progress.
You will play a key role in assessing and progressing mortgage applications, ensuring every case is reviewed accurately, responsibly and in line with lending criteria. The Role
As a Mortgage Underwriter, you will be responsible for reviewing and progressing second-charge mortgage applications from initial assessment through to completion.
You will assess customer circumstances, income, expenditure and supporting documentation to ensure applications meet lending criteria and deliver fair customer outcomes. Working closely with customers and internal stakeholders, you will ensure cases are accurately documented and progressed within agreed service levels.

- Monthly performance bonus, with OTE of £38,000+

Key Responsibilities for the Mortgage Underwriter:
- Review and manually assess second-charge mortgage applications in line with lending criteria.
- Verify customer documentation and request further information where required.
- Assess income, expenditure and affordability to support responsible lending decisions.
- Identify potential risks, inconsistencies or missing information within applications.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records throughout the application process.
- Liaise with customers and internal stakeholders to progress cases efficiently.
- Manage a caseload in line with agreed service levels, quality standards and KPIs.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company processes, regulatory requirements and responsible lending principles.
- Develop your knowledge of specialist lending and underwriting through structured training and hands-on experience.
To be successful in this Mortgage Underwriter role, you will ideally have:
- At least 12 months’ experience assessing or processing loan, mortgage or finance applications.
- Experience reviewing income and expenditure information as part of a lending process.
- Previous experience within lending, mortgages, financial services or another regulated environment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to assess information accurately.
- Good communication skills, with confidence liaising with customers and internal teams.
- A structured and organised approach to managing multiple cases and deadlines.
- A genuine interest in developing a career in mortgage lending and underwriting.
