Our client is a well-established national law firm with a strong regional presence, currently seeking an experienced Costs Draftsman / Costs Lawyer to join its growing national Costs team in Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious costs professional looking to develop their career within a supportive and collaborative legal environment.
The RoleWorking as part of a growing national team, you will be responsible for the preparation and litigation of costs matters, working closely with clients, fee earners and senior members of the Costs team.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing Bills of Costs for Detailed and Provisional Assessment.
Litigating Bills of Costs through the Court process.
Providing advice and guidance to clients throughout matters and taking instructions as required.
Liaising directly with clients and other relevant stakeholders.
Providing technical costs support to fee earners across the business.
Attending Court and undertaking advocacy where required and appropriate.
Assisting with the training and development of more junior members of the team.
Managing competing priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and client service.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
At least 2 years' experience in Costs, either within a law firm or an external costs drafting service.
Experience preparing Bills of Costs and a good understanding of the costs process.
A basic understanding of legal procedures and Court processes.
Strong IT skills and experience using time recording systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A professional and confident telephone manner.
The ability to communicate effectively with clients, fee earners and wider business stakeholders.
The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond positively to changing priorities.
Desirable qualifications/experience include:
ACL qualification or relevant CILEX studies.
Financial or legal qualifications.
Experience working across one or more legal practice areas.
