School Improvement Officer

Location: Remote with School Visits
Contract: Interim



About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated School Improvement Officer to support schools in raising educational standards, improving outcomes for children and young people, and ensuring effective leadership and governance across maintained schools and academies.

Working closely with Headteachers, Senior Leadership Teams, Governors and Local Authority colleagues, you will provide challenge, support and strategic advice to drive continuous school improvement. This role is ideal for an experienced education professional with a strong understanding of school leadership, curriculum development, performance analysis and Ofsted frameworks.



Key Responsibilities

  • Support schools to improve educational outcomes and overall effectiveness.
  • Monitor school performance through analysis of attainment, attendance, behaviour and safeguarding data.
  • Provide professional challenge and support to Headteachers, Governors and Senior Leadership Teams.
  • Deliver school reviews, audits and improvement visits.
  • Support schools causing concern and those requiring targeted intervention.
  • Contribute to Ofsted preparation, inspection readiness and post-inspection action planning.
  • Develop and monitor school improvement plans, ensuring measurable impact.
  • Promote high-quality teaching, learning and curriculum development.
  • Facilitate effective school-to-school support and partnership working.
  • Advise on leadership development, governance and workforce planning.
  • Prepare reports and briefings for senior leaders, elected members and education boards.


Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent educational leadership qualification.
  • Significant experience in school leadership, school improvement or education advisory services.
  • Strong knowledge of Ofsted inspection frameworks and educational legislation.
  • Proven ability to analyse performance data and drive improvement strategies.
  • Experience supporting schools through change, challenge and improvement programmes.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusion within educational settings.


Desirable

  • Previous experience working within a Local Authority School Improvement Service.
  • Experience supporting academies and maintained schools.
  • National Professional Qualification (NPQ) or recognised leadership qualification.
  • Experience leading successful school improvement initiatives resulting in improved inspection outcomes.
