About the Opportunity

Astro Education are working in partnership with a number of warm, welcoming and inclusive primary schools across Manchester and the surrounding areas, who are looking for enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistants to join their teams on a full-time, long-term basis.

These opportunities are ideal for Teaching Assistants who are looking to secure a consistent role within a supportive school environment and make a genuine difference to children's learning, development and wellbeing.

Our partner schools are committed to providing engaging, inclusive and nurturing learning environments. They are looking for individuals who are passionate about education, confident working with children and keen to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to support pupils both academically and pastorally.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the class teacher in delivering engaging and effective lessons
  • Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to support their learning and development
  • Providing additional support to pupils who may have SEND or other additional needs
  • Supporting children with phonics, reading, writing and maths activities
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours
  • Assisting with classroom organisation and the preparation of learning resources
  • Supporting positive behaviour and effective classroom management
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and encouraging learning environment
  • Monitoring pupil engagement and contributing to observations of progress
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, Teaching Assistants and wider school staff
  • Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes and lunchtimes where required
  • Contributing to the wider wellbeing, safeguarding and development of pupils
What We're Looking For

We are looking for Teaching Assistants who are:

  • Passionate about supporting children's learning, development and wellbeing
  • Caring, patient and able to build strong relationships with pupils
  • Confident supporting children 1:1, in small groups and within the classroom
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with a range of abilities and needs
  • Reliable, proactive and committed to a full-time, long-term position
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team while also using their own initiative
  • Flexible and adaptable when responding to the needs of pupils and the school
  • Strong communicators with both children and adults
  • Committed to creating a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Keen to develop their experience and career within education

Previous experience working with children or within a school setting is desirable, but we are also keen to hear from enthusiastic aspiring Teaching Assistants with relevant transferable experience.
