Principal Electrical Design Engineer – Low-Carbon Energy (Lancashire)
Salary: Up to £70,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits
The Opportunity
Join one of the UK’s leading specialists in district energy and low-carbon infrastructure, delivering major projects that directly support the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
Growing at approximately 20% year-on-year, the business now employs 125+ MEP engineers and has a strong pipeline of secured work across healthcare, universities, residential developments, local authorities and commercial/industrial clients.
As part of this continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to provide technical leadership across complex energy and decarbonisation projects.
The Role
You will lead electrical design from concept through to detailed design, combining hands-on engineering, technical leadership and client engagement across projects including:
- Energy centres and district heating networks
- Large-scale heat pump installations
- CHP and trigeneration plants
- LV electrical distribution and associated infrastructure
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading electrical designs from concept through to detailed design
- Producing LV distribution designs, SLDs, calculations and specifications
- Cable sizing, protection coordination and equipment selection
- Specifying switchgear, transformers, generators and associated plant
- Coordinating with Mechanical, Civil and C&I engineering teams
- Attending client meetings, design reviews and site surveys
- Resolving technical issues and supporting project delivery
- Ensuring compliance with BS 7671, CDM Regulations and relevant standards
- Mentoring and developing junior engineers
About You
You will ideally have:
- 6+ years' electrical design experience within Building Services, Energy Centres, District Energy, Power Generation or Renewable Energy
- Strong LV distribution and electrical power systems knowledge
- Experience producing electrical calculations, specifications and design documentation
- AutoCAD experience
- Strong knowledge of BS 7671
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Full UK manual driving licence
