This is a full-time placement for a minimum of four weeks, with the possibility of being extended. It is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive specialist setting and make a meaningful difference to young people with significant additional needs.

Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant - about the school

The school supports secondary-aged pupils and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Pupils may have a range of needs, including:

  • Communication and interaction needs

  • Moderate or severe learning difficulties

  • Social, emotional and mental health needs

  • Sensory and physical needs

  • Complex additional needs

The purpose-built setting provides calm, structured learning environments, specialist teaching spaces and opportunities for individual and small-group support. Staff work together to help every pupil develop academically, socially and emotionally while building confidence and independence.

As a Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and specialist staff to support pupils throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Encouraging communication, independence and positive social interaction

  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Helping pupils manage transitions and daily routines

  • Preparing learning resources and supporting classroom activities

  • Monitoring pupils' engagement and sharing observations with teaching staff

  • Following individual support, behaviour and safeguarding plans

  • Helping to maintain a safe, calm and nurturing learning environment

Depending on pupils' individual needs, the role may include personal care or physical support. Relevant guidance and training will be provided by the school where required.
