Health and Safety Director - #2129218
Carrington West
Are you an experienced Health & Safety leader ready to take the next step into a Director-level position?
Do you have major infrastructure experience, ideally on tunnelling or heavy civils projects?
Location: Manchester initially, with travel across the Lake District
Salary: £125,000 - £150,000 + package
A major infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Health & Safety Director to lead the H&S function on a major water infrastructure project in the North West.
The project involves the construction of a 110km aqueduct, with a significant proportion of the works being underground construction and tunnelling. The successful candidate will initially be based around Manchester/Bolton, before moving to one of the project's regional hubs as the works progress.
This is a senior leadership position, requiring an established H&S professional who can provide visible leadership across a complex, high-risk major project.
The Role
·Provide strategic leadership and direction for Health & Safety across the project.
·Lead and develop a team of approximately 20 H&S professionals, with scope for this to increase.
·Work closely with the Project Director, Operations Director and wider Senior Leadership Team.
·Drive a strong safety culture across a major, complex infrastructure programme.
·Provide visible leadership across multiple project sites and construction hubs.
·Develop and implement H&S strategy, standards and processes across the project.
·Support the delivery of the project in line with legislative, client and company requirements.
·Work collaboratively with environmental and other project functions.
·Potential responsibility for Security and Facilities, subject to final project structure.
·Lead, inspire and develop the wider H&S team, ensuring strong standards of professional performance.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an established Health & Safety leader with experience working on large-scale, complex infrastructure or major construction projects.
You may currently be working as a Health & Safety Director, Head of Health & Safety, Senior H&S Manager or similar, or be an experienced senior manager ready to take the next step into a Director-level position.
You will need to be a strong leader rather than simply a technical H&S specialist, with the ability to lead, influence and inspire teams across a large and complex project.
Qualifications
·NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent H&S qualification.
·Chartered membership of IOSH, or working towards Chartered status, preferred.
·Significant senior-level Health & Safety experience.
·Strong understanding of UK construction and infrastructure H&S legislation.
·Environmental experience or an environmental bias would be advantageous given the nature of the project.
Package
·£125,000 - £150,000 salary, dependent on experience.
·Discretionary bonus, typically around 10-15%.
·Excellent EV / company car scheme or travel allowance.
·Pension.
·Private healthcare.
·Perkbox and wider benefits.
·All business travel, accommodation and expenses covered.
·Flexible working arrangements.
This is an opportunity for a senior H&S professional to take a genuine leadership position on a major, nationally significant infrastructure project, with the autonomy and influence expected at Director level.
