ESTIMATOR

Manchester | Construction | Permanent

You're not looking for another spreadsheet-filler. You're looking to build a career in estimating.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious Estimator / Junior Estimator to join a successful construction business in Manchester, working across a portfolio of high-profile projects and playing a genuine role in winning profitable work.

You'll work closely with experienced estimators, learning how to build accurate costs, interrogate tenders, manage supply chain enquiries and identify the commercial risks and opportunities that can make or break a bid.

If you're commercially minded, analytical, organised and want to become an outstanding estimator rather than simply process numbers, this could be the move for you.

THE ROLE

You'll take ownership of elements of the estimating process, supporting and leading tenders from enquiry through to submission.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading relevant tenders, coordinating processes and resources to deliver bids on time and to a high standard
  • Building accurate, commercially sound estimates and pricing work to the right net cost
  • Managing supply chain enquiries, obtaining competitive quotations and challenging costs where appropriate
  • Identifying commercial opportunities, potential risks and ways to de-risk projects
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date cost base using supplier quotations, framework rates and market information
  • Monitoring tender progress and maintaining clear estimating plans
  • Working closely with commercial, design, procurement and delivery teams to ensure all disciplines are properly integrated
  • Producing detailed handover and control documentation for the delivery team
  • Supporting strategic and contract changes where required
  • Communicating clearly with internal teams, subcontractors and suppliers throughout the tender process

Ultimately, your job is simple:

Help win the right work, at the right price, with the right level of risk.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

We're looking for someone who has already gained some exposure to estimating and wants to take the next step.

You'll ideally have:

  • 2+ years' experience as a Junior Estimator or in a relevant construction, engineering or commercial environment
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Good commercial awareness and an understanding of how construction projects are delivered
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines
  • A genuine desire to learn, take feedback and improve
  • The confidence to communicate with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders

WHY THIS ROLE?

Because you won't be left to figure it out alone.

You'll have experienced people around you who can teach you how good estimating is actually done - from understanding costs and supply chains through to identifying risk, challenging assumptions and ultimately putting together bids that win.

You'll get exposure to high-profile projects, complex tenders and the commercial decision-making behind them, giving you the platform to develop into a highly capable Estimator.

If you're hungry to progress, commercially curious and want your next role to actually develop you, I want to hear from you.
