Location: Davyhulme WWTW
Contract: 9-month contract (with potential to go permanent thereafter)
Pay Rate: £15.09 per hour
Hours: 37h week

Job Purpose
The Soil Sampler is responsible for delivering United Utilities' soil sampling and field risk assessment programme across a designated geographical area. The role supports the safe and sustainable recycling of biosolids to agricultural land by collecting soil samples, undertaking field risk assessments and maintaining accurate records in line with regulatory requirements and the Biosolids Assurance Scheme (BAS).
The post holder will work as part of the wider Agriculture Services team, supporting Agriculture Advisors, Field Management Teams, Recycling Controllers and Bioresource Technical Officers. The role may also support field management activities, stockpile risk assessments and other operational requirements as required.
This is a field-based role involving regular travel, outdoor working and significant walking across agricultural land.
Key Responsibilities
- To undertake soil sampling and field risk assessment programme following relevant Standard Operating Procedure (SoP), risk assessments and guidance notes. These activities could be physically demanding tasks in an outdoor environment.
- To support with field management, stockpile risk assessment activities, or other operational activities, where necessary.
- To carry out work as scheduled by relevant Agriculture Advisor.
- Submit appropriately labelled soil samples to the labs in accordance with the instructions provided.
- Submit the field risk assessment notes, pictures etc. to relevant Agriculture Advisor (AA) promptly.
- Liaise with farming customers, where necessary, for farm/ field access etc.
- To adhere to Health and Safety requirements to comply with regulations and internal Company policies.
- To maintain required competency to satisfy relevant regulations and Biosolids Assurance Scheme (BAS) requirements
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Willingness to achieve an NVQ Level 2 qualification (or equivalent).
- Full UK driving licence and own transport
- Commitment to maintaining all required training, skills and competencies throughout employment.
Essential Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to read maps and orientation skills within agriculture setting.
- Physically fit with the ability to work and walk long distance.
- A good knowledge on computers is required typically, including but not limited to, familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel and other UU corporate systems (eg: OMS, BioCom, SharePoint etc.)
- Planning, controlling and organising skills.
- Ability to work in a team as well as alone in agricultural and rural environments, be resilient, self-motivated.
- To demonstrate practical experience working with agriculture setting.
Desirable Knowledge & Experience
- A basic understanding of UK agriculture and Biosolids recycling process would be desirable.
