Assistant Board Secretary
Location: Manchester (Hybrid)
Contract: Temporary up to March 2027
Salary: £37,690.68
Reports To: Board Secretary
We are seeking an organised, professional and highly capable Assistant Board Secretary to join a dynamic Corporate Governance and Private Office function. This is an excellent opportunity to work at the heart of a high-profile organisation, supporting senior leaders, Board members and Committees while helping to drive effective governance and decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide secretariat support to Board Committees, including agenda planning, commissioning papers, meeting coordination, minute taking and action tracking
- Support the Board Secretary in the preparation and delivery of Board meetings
- Coordinate meeting logistics and administrative support across the wider governance function.
- Maintain governance records and support activities such as declarations of interest, non-executive appraisals and diversity monitoring
- Assist with governance improvement initiatives and corporate governance projects, including committee effectiveness reviews, board recruitment activities and process improvements.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of governance systems, policies and procedures.
- Build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, supporting effective communication across the organisation
Essential Skills & Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to produce accurate minutes and capture key actions from complex discussions.
- Strong organisational and coordination skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Experience planning and supporting meetings, including agenda management, paper coordination and action tracking.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Desirable
- Experience supporting Boards, Committees or senior governance functions.
- Experience working with non-executive directors or board members.
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive information.
