About the Organisation

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing organisation based in Manchester. With a strong reputation for delivering a fair, efficient and customer-focused claims service, this business is expanding its claims handling function to meet increasing demand and ensure every customer receives the high standard of service they deserve.

This is an organisation that takes its obligations seriously and invests in the people who represent it. You will be joining a team that is professional, collaborative and committed to getting the right outcome for customers every time.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Claims Handler to join the team and take ownership of a varied caseload of claims from first notification through to resolution. You will be someone who is comfortable managing complexity, confident making decisions, and committed to delivering a fair and timely outcome for all parties involved.

This is a role that offers real variety and genuine responsibility. The right person will be proactive, commercially aware, and able to balance the needs of the customer with the interests of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a caseload of claims end-to-end, from first notification of loss through investigation, negotiation and settlement
  • Gathering and assessing evidence, documentation and information to establish the facts of each claim
  • Making coverage decisions in line with policy terms, conditions and relevant legislation
  • Negotiating settlements with claimants, solicitors and third parties, achieving fair and cost-effective outcomes
  • Liaising with internal teams, external loss adjusters, legal representatives and other stakeholders throughout the claims process
  • Ensuring all claims are handled in accordance with regulatory requirements, internal procedures and best practice
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records on the claims management system at all times
  • Identifying and escalating potentially fraudulent or complex claims in a timely manner
  • Providing regular updates to customers and keeping them informed throughout the lifecycle of their claim
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives and sharing knowledge and best practice across the team

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a confident and experienced Claims Handler who is comfortable managing their own caseload, making sound decisions under pressure, and communicating clearly and professionally with a wide range of people. You will be someone who takes genuine ownership of each claim and is motivated by achieving the right outcome efficiently and fairly.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in a claims handling role — ideally three or more years — within insurance, legal services or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of claims processes, policy interpretation and relevant regulatory requirements
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of achieving fair and cost-effective settlements
  • The ability to assess complex information, weigh up competing factors and make clear, well-reasoned decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain decisions clearly to customers and stakeholders
  • High attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach to managing a busy caseload
  • Experience with claims management systems and strong general IT proficiency
  • CII qualification or working towards it is desirable but not essential

What Is on Offer

  • Hybrid working with flexibility around office attendance in Manchester
  • A professional and supportive working environment where your expertise is genuinely valued
  • A varied and challenging caseload that will keep you engaged and developing your skills
  • Clear career progression opportunities as the organisation continues to grow
  • The opportunity to make a real difference to customers at what is often a difficult time
