About the Opportunity
An established and growing international logistics and supply chain business is seeking an experienced Customs Supervisor to lead customs operations and support a high-performing team. This confidential opportunity would suit an individual with strong customs clearance expertise, leadership experience, and a thorough understanding of UK customs regulations and compliance.
Working within a fast-paced environment, you will oversee customs clearance activities, manage operational priorities, support team development, and ensure high standards of compliance and customer service are maintained.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Operations
- Manage and oversee import and export customs declarations, ensuring accuracy and timely submission
- Act as the primary point of contact for customs-related queries from customers, colleagues, and external stakeholders
- Monitor customs entries and ensure all follow-up actions are completed efficiently
- Maintain a strong understanding of UK customs legislation and ensure compliance with current regulatory requirements
- Ensure all shipment records and customs documentation are accurately maintained within operational systems
Team Leadership
- Supervise and support a customs operations team, ensuring workloads are effectively managed and allocated
- Monitor individual and team performance against operational targets and service standards
- Identify training needs and implement development plans to enhance team capability
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to promote continuous improvement and operational excellence
Commercial & Financial Responsibilities
- Ensure customs duty and tax payments are processed and invoiced appropriately
- Maintain awareness of operational costs and profitability
- Support month-end processes, including financial reporting and account reconciliation activities
- Ensure customer invoicing is completed accurately and within agreed timescales
- Produce performance and operational reports for management review
Customer & Compliance Focus
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with customers and business partners
- Ensure compliance with all relevant customs regulations, trade agreements, tariff requirements, and border controls
- Promote best practice and adherence to internal processes and operational standards
About You
- Minimum 5 years' experience within Customs, Freight Forwarding, International Trade, or a related sector
- Strong knowledge of UK customs procedures and compliance requirements
- Experience supervising or managing operational teams
- Sound understanding of customs regimes and procedures, including inward and outward processing concepts
- Knowledge of trade agreements, tariff classifications, and duty management processes
- Experience working with IPAFFS and customs clearance platforms
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise work in a deadline-driven environment
