This is a hands-on engineering role focused on delivering automation projects across manufacturing, supporting the introduction of new robotic systems, improving production processes and driving continuous improvement within a modern manufacturing environment.

The Opportunity

Working as part of the manufacturing engineering team, you'll take ownership of automation and process improvement projects from concept through to implementation. You'll be involved in specifying, installing and commissioning automated equipment, while working closely with production, engineering and quality teams to improve efficiency, productivity and manufacturing capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement automation opportunities across manufacturing operations, including welding, fabrication and assembly.
  • Specify new capital equipment, including robotic welding cells, CNC machinery and material handling systems.
  • Manage equipment installation, commissioning and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Develop and optimise robotic programs and PLC-controlled automation systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, quality and process stability.
  • Carry out FMEAs, risk assessments and maintain manufacturing process documentation.
  • Support Design for Manufacture (DfM) activities on new product introduction (NPI) projects.
  • Ensure all automation projects comply with health & safety, environmental and quality standards.

What We're Looking For

  • HND or Degree qualified in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering automation projects within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial robotics and PLC control systems.
  • Experience with automated welding, assembly or machining processes.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing processes and implement practical engineering solutions.
  • Knowledge of machinery safety standards including PUWER and CE/UKCA regulations.
  • Project management or Continuous Improvement qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, Six Sigma or Agile) would be beneficial.

What's on Offer

  • Excellent pension scheme with up to 7% employer contribution.
  • Flexible working and half-day Fridays.
  • Life assurance and enhanced company sick pay.
  • Cycle to Work scheme, free parking and EV charging.
  • Long service awards and additional annual leave.
  • Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing initiatives.
