Job Introduction

Pendlebury House is part of Turning Point, a leading health and social care organisation and registered charity. Located in a community setting in Swinton, Manchester, Pendlebury House is an independent hospital providing rehabilitation, treatment and care for up to 10 patients, including those detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA), who experience severe and enduring mental health needs.

We deliver care that is person-centred, recovery-focused and least restrictive, ensuring service users are actively involved in decisions about their care. Our approach promotes dignity, respect, choice and positive risk-taking, supporting individuals to build on their strengths, develop independence and move towards meaningful lives in the community.

Role Responsibility

As a Support Worker, you will play a central role in delivering safe, compassionate and effective care, aligned with CQC expectations and recovery principles. Key responsibilities include:

  • Building respectful, therapeutic relationships that promote trust, dignity and emotional safety
  • Working in partnership with service users, using co-production to support personalised recovery goals
  • Supporting individuals to have choice, control and involvement in their care and daily routines
  • Delivering care that is least restrictive, recovery-focused and proportionate, in line with positive risk-taking principles
  • Recognising early indicators of deterioration and responding promptly to maintain safety and wellbeing
  • Supporting the development of coping strategies, resilience and self-management skills
  • Promoting independence through support with daily living skills, preparing individuals for community living
  • Encouraging engagement in meaningful, purposeful activities that support social inclusion and hope
  • Working collaboratively with nurses, occupational therapists, assistant psychologists and project workers to provide consistent, joined-up care
  • Delivering care in line with individual care, risk and recovery plans, the Mental Health Act, and relevant legislation
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive and well-led environment, where safeguarding, learning and continuous improvement are prioritised

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a committed and compassionate Support Worker who shares Turning Point’s recovery values and CQC-aligned approach to care. Experience or a qualification in health and social care is desirable. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, empathy and professionalism, with an understanding of supporting people with mental health needs in a hospital setting.

This role involves working 37 hours per week on a shift rota that includes early, late and night shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
