Compliance isn't just about ticking boxes. It's about protecting the business, reducing risk and making sure good legal work stays exactly that.
We're working with a well-established claimant law firm looking to appoint an experienced Compliance Officer to support its Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP). This is a hands-on role where you'll be involved in the day-to-day compliance and risk management activities that keep a busy litigation practice running smoothly.
If you've worked within a legal compliance environment, understand the realities of litigation, and enjoy solving problems before they become issues, we'd like to hear from you.
The RoleWorking alongside the COLP, you'll play a key part in ensuring the firm continues to meet its regulatory obligations while supporting wider risk management initiatives across the business.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the management of complaints, professional negligence claims, data subject access requests and related matters
- Assisting with regulatory compliance and helping identify, monitor and reduce risk across the firm
- Carrying out AML and client due diligence checks in line with firm procedures
- Maintaining compliance records and central risk registers, including complaints and professional indemnity notifications
- Assisting with file audits and compliance reviews
- Working closely with internal business support teams on compliance-related projects
- Researching regulatory developments and helping implement changes where required
- Keeping up to date with changes in legal regulation, compliance requirements and best practice
You'll be organised, commercially aware and comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced legal environment. You'll also be confident communicating with colleagues at all levels, including senior management.
We're looking for someone with:
- At least two years' experience within a litigation environment
- Previous experience supporting legal compliance or risk management functions
- A good understanding of SRA regulations and the professional standards governing law firms
- Knowledge of AML, client due diligence and wider regulatory compliance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and sound organisational skills
- Confidence using case management systems (experience with Proclaim would be beneficial)
- Housing litigation or housing disrepair experience would be advantageous but isn't essential
- Good IT skills and the ability to work across multiple systems
- Competitive salary, depending on experience (circa £35,000-£37,500)
- Performance-related bonus
- Hybrid working
- Flexible start and finish times
- 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
- Birthday off
- Annual salary reviews
- Employer pension contribution of 6%
- Company sick pay
- Death in service benefit
- Subsidised gym membership
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Ongoing training and career development
- Modern city centre offices with a relaxed working environment
If you're looking for a compliance role where your work genuinely influences the way a respected litigation practice operates, we'd love to speak with you.
