Are you an experienced auditor looking to take the next step in your career?
We are recruiting an Audit Assistant Manager on behalf of an established independent accountancy practice based in Manchester city centre. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious audit professional who wants greater responsibility, regular client contact and a clear route for progression within a supportive and professional environment.
You will join an experienced audit team and work with a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses, growing companies and established organisations across a range of sectors. The role offers a strong mix of audit planning, fieldwork, file review, client relationship management and the development of junior team members.
This position would suit an experienced Audit Senior, Audit Supervisor or existing Assistant Manager who is ready to take greater ownership of assignments and play a visible role within a growing team.
Duties and responsibilitiesAs Audit Assistant Manager, you will help manage audit assignments from initial planning through to completion. You will work closely with managers and partners, act as a key point of contact for clients and ensure that assignments are delivered efficiently, accurately and to a high standard.
Key responsibilities will include:
• Managing a portfolio of audit clients and supporting the delivery of several assignments at the same time.
• Planning audit assignments, including agreeing the scope, timetable, staffing requirements and key risk areas.
• Leading audit fieldwork in the Manchester office and at client sites.
• Supervising, supporting and coaching junior members of the audit team.
• Reviewing audit files and working papers, providing clear feedback and ensuring that outstanding points are resolved.
• Monitoring assignment budgets, deadlines and work in progress, raising potential issues where appropriate.
• Preparing and reviewing statutory financial statements where required.
• Ensuring all audit work is completed in accordance with relevant auditing standards, accounting standards and internal quality procedures.
• Building strong and trusted client relationships and maintaining clear communication throughout each assignment.
• Attending audit planning, clearance and completion meetings with senior colleagues.
• Identifying control weaknesses, business risks and opportunities to provide additional support to clients.
• Assisting managers and partners with technical queries, client matters and the continued development of the audit function.
• Contributing to the training, development and performance of junior team members.
• Supporting improvements to audit processes, quality and efficiency across the team.
Experience and qualificationsYou will ideally be ACA or ACCA qualified, although strong part qualified candidates with relevant experience may also be considered.
Candidates should have:
• Recent audit experience gained within an accountancy practice.
• Experience of leading, supervising or managing audit assignments.
• Strong technical knowledge of auditing and financial reporting requirements.
• Experience of working with a varied portfolio of clients.
• The ability to review audit files and provide constructive feedback to junior colleagues.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Confidence communicating with clients and building professional relationships.
• A proactive, commercially aware and solutions-focused approach.
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a close-knit team.
• A commitment to delivering high-quality work and excellent client service.
BenefitsThe successful candidate will benefit from the close relationships and local identity of an established Manchester practice, combined with the resources, development opportunities and wider professional network of a larger organisation.
The package is expected to include:
• A competitive salary, dependent on experience.
• Flexible and hybrid working arrangements to support a positive work-life balance.
• Bupa private medical cover.
• Life assurance worth four times your salary.
• A holiday purchase scheme, allowing employees to buy up to five additional days of annual leave each year.
• Retail discounts across a range of shops and restaurants.
• Structured professional, management and leadership development opportunities.
• Access to mentoring and wider learning programmes.
• Exposure to a varied and interesting portfolio of audit clients.
• Regular contact with experienced managers, directors and business owners.
• Genuine opportunities for progression within an ambitious and expanding national group.
• A modern Manchester office location with a hybrid working arrangement.
The firm offers a friendly, professional and team-focused environment where employees are encouraged to take responsibility and continue developing their careers.
You will work closely with experienced colleagues and senior decision-makers, giving you the opportunity to make a visible contribution rather than feeling like a small part of a large organisation. The culture is centred on high-quality client service, open communication, professional development and supporting colleagues to succeed.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who values the personal approach and varied client exposure of an independent practice, while still wanting access to challenging work and long-term career progression.
