Job Title: Diesel Engine Fitter (Field-Based)
Location: Field-based - primarily covering Manchester, Leeds and Salisbury (travel between customer sites required)
Rate: £35.00 per hour.
Hours: Typically 10-hour shifts on site, although hours may vary depending on operational requirements.
Working Pattern: Generally Monday to Thursday (4-day week), however flexibility will be required as shifts and working days may change to meet customer and operational demands.
Contract Duration: Minimum 6-month contract

Our client is a leading manufacturer and front-line supplier of powertrain products across the UK and Ireland. They specialise in diesel engine overhaul, final drive overhaul and locomotive refurbishment, supporting customers within the rolling stock industry with industry-leading engineering expertise.
The Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Product Support Engineer to join an internationally recognised rolling stock organisation on a field-based contract.
Supporting customers across Manchester, Leeds and Salisbury, you will attend rail depots and maintenance facilities carrying out repairs and planned maintenance on diesel engines fitted to rolling stock. The role will involve diagnosing faults, carrying out mechanical repairs and ensuring vehicles are returned to service safely and efficiently.
Typical duties will include bearing replacements, mechanical component changes, fault finding, inspections and general diesel engine maintenance.
This is a mobile position, and a company van will be provided. The role will involve regular travel and may require occasional overnight stays (lodging away) depending on customer requirements and work locations.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out mechanical maintenance and repairs on rolling stock diesel engines.
Perform bearing replacements and other mechanical component changes.
Diagnose engine faults and undertake effective repairs.
Complete planned and reactive maintenance activities.
Attend customer sites across the UK, primarily Manchester, Leeds and Salisbury.
Work safely in accordance with company procedures and railway industry standards.
Complete service documentation and maintenance reports accurately.
Liaise professionally with customers and internal engineering teams to ensure work is completed efficiently.
The Successful Candidate
Previous experience working on diesel engines within the rolling stock, heavy plant, HGV, military or similar industries.
Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair experience.
Experience carrying out bearing changes and general engine overhaul work.
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline is desirable.
Full UK driving licence.
Comfortable working in a field-based environment and travelling between customer sites.
Willingness to stay away from home when required.
Flexible approach to working hours and shift patterns.
