SEMH Behaviour Mentor | Oldham | Full-Time | September & Immediate Starts Available

Are you passionate about supporting young people who need a positive role model? Do you have the resilience, patience, and determination to help students overcome barriers and succeed both in education and in life?

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a SEMH Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist school in the Oldham area. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional emotional, social, and behavioural support, helping them build confidence, develop coping strategies, and re-engage with learning.

About the School

This specialist provision supports pupils who have experienced challenges within mainstream education and require a more personalised approach to learning. Many students have SEMH needs, autism, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours, or difficulties with emotional regulation.

The school prides itself on creating a nurturing, structured, and supportive environment where every pupil is given the opportunity to succeed. Staff focus heavily on relationship-building, consistency, and positive reinforcement, helping students develop trust, resilience, and self-belief.

With small class sizes, excellent staff-to-pupil ratios, and a strong pastoral team, this is a setting where staff are genuinely able to make a lasting impact.

The Role

As a SEMH Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with pupils both inside and outside the classroom, providing the guidance and support they need to engage positively with education.

You will act as a positive role model, helping pupils develop emotional regulation skills, improve behaviour, and build confidence in their abilities. Every day will be different, offering opportunities to support learning, mentor students, and celebrate progress both big and small.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs, autism, ADHD, and behavioural challenges
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
  • Assist students in accessing learning and remaining engaged in lessons
  • Support conflict resolution and de-escalation where required
  • Work alongside teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence
  • Contribute to a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
Who We're Looking For
  • Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, coaching, mentoring, care, support work, residential care, or similar settings
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Ability to remain professional in challenging situations
  • Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
  • Understanding of behaviour support and safeguarding principles

Experience working with SEMH needs is beneficial but not essential. Candidates with transferable skills from youth work, sports coaching, care, mental health support, or mentoring backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

What the School Offers
  • A highly supportive leadership and pastoral team
  • Extensive training and professional development opportunities
  • Small class sizes and strong staff support
  • Clear progression opportunities within education and pastoral services
  • A welcoming and collaborative team environment
  • The opportunity to genuinely change the lives of young people
