£110,000 plus package
SME & Unlisted Corporate Client Portfolio | Leadership Role | RI (Responsible Individual) pathway
An established mid-tier accountancy and advisory firm in Manchester is looking to appoint an Audit Director to lead a high-quality audit portfolio and manage a growing team. This is a senior opportunity for an experienced audit leader from the UK mid-tier market, comfortable balancing client relationships, technical excellence, and people leadership.
Responsible Individual status is available immediately or within a short period of time, depending on experience.
The role
- As Audit Director, you’ll take ownership of a varied portfolio of SME and unlisted corporate clients and play a key role in shaping the audit proposition locally. You’ll be trusted to oversee planning through completion, ensure high standards of compliance, and develop the team around you.
- You will help to drive the Business Development proposition for the firm, developing your own portfolio.
- You may get involved in Acquisition Strategy and Delivery as the Firm acquires other business as part of it's strategic growth plan.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of audit clients, acting as the senior point of contact and trusted adviser
- Lead audit engagements end-to-end: planning, risk assessment, review, completion and final sign-off readiness
- Drive quality, technical compliance and best practice across assignments
- Coach, mentor and develop a team (Managers, Seniors and trainees), supporting progression and performance
- Build long-term client relationships and contribute to pipeline development / proposals where appropriate
- Work closely with Partners and other service lines to deliver joined-up client service
What we’re looking for
- Significant UK audit experience within a mid-tier firm (this is essential and candidates with Large & Complex Audit experience only will not be considered)
- ACA or ACCA qualified
- RI status already held, or demonstrably ready to step into RI (experience/track record aligned to that level)
- Strong portfolio leadership skills: commercial awareness, stakeholder management and confident decision-making
- Proven ability to lead and develop teams, with a collaborative and pragmatic leadership style
- Strong technical knowledge of UK audit and financial reporting requirements
