To meet our growing project workload and help us design and apply new approaches to the work we do, we are looking for experienced and enthusiastic Ecologists to join our Northern team. The location in which you choose to work can be flexible, but we hope to attract candidates principally to our Manchester office. By choosing to join us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant, high-profile, and exciting projects, with many of our projects winning awards for biodiversity enhancements, innovation, and knowledge sharing. Our ecology team also won the inaugural CIEEM Large-Scale Consultancy of the Year Award in 2018 and has been highly commended in the same award category each year thereafter.

Roles And Responsibilities
- Providing ecological input to a varied range of projects across different sectors, including leading on infrastructure projects, managing project programmes and budgets.
- Undertaking field surveys for a range of protected species and habitats and managing survey data.
- Planning and coordinating field surveys, analyzing and interpreting survey results using approaches such as biodiversity net gain or natural capital.
- Designing and coordinating ecological mitigation works.
- Authoring and/or checking/reviewing ecological reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impacts Assessments, Biodiversity Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments, Habitat Regulations Appraisals, Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments, Precautionary Methods of Working, and more.
- Authoring and/or checking/reviewing and providing guidance on protected species license applications.
- Managing work enquiries, preparing bids, and building client relationships.
- Managing work enquiries and preparing bids under the guidance of more senior staff.
- Collaborating with our AtkinsRéalis multi-disciplinary teams and undertaking stakeholder engagement.
Ideally, you would have the following qualities/ qualifications / memberships:
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or be on the route of obtaining membership (Atkins to cover membership costs).
- A degree in ecology, biology, zoology, or closely related field (desirable but not essential).
- Experience in UK Habitat survey (Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) level 3+, or demonstrable experience equating to this level would be desirable) and protected species survey.
- At least one protected species survey license (desirable but not essential).
- A strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning policies, licensing requirements, and best practice survey techniques.
- Good understanding of BNG/ application of biodiversity enhancements (working project experience desirable).
- Experience of producing ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal reports and Ecological Impact Assessment reports.
- Strong collaborative behaviors to interface with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A full, valid UK driving license.
